Update on my Protein Bread; It’s OK to be NOT OK

I posted this on Instagram Wednesday eve. BOY, IT HIT A NERVE WITH MANY! I have done a post recently about this. Life comes with all kinds of things – struggles, anger, sadness, depression, loneliness, hurt.. along with happiness, fun, joy, love.

The thing is that sometimes social media is not wanting to hear the hard stuff. You read these posts that say just be happy or you are what you think. YES, I agree with that BUT we also live a life that is not always perfect. If you are saying you have that, I want to know what pill you are taking!

I just want people to know that it is OK to not be OK! You are fine – FEEL!!!! Let it out! Scream or cry or pound something or hit the weights like I do – whatever it takes to do what you need to do ALONG WITH talking to somebody or a professional if need bethere is nothing wrong with asking for help!

I really like the end of this quote above – about not waging war with ourselves – REALLY IMPORTANT! We do it to ourselves OR we let others make us think we are not OK. ALWAYS KNOW THAT YOU ARE ENOUGH – YOU ARE OK FOR FEELING!

Just felt like I needed to write this today since I got a huge response on Instagram thanking me for posting it & how much they needed to hear that. HUGS TO ALL!

OK – on to my protein bread that I have posted about many times. Click the link for the recipe.

I have posted since then making it with different flavor protein powders BUT this one is my favorite flavor. I recently made a slight change to it. You don’t have to do it but I like that this little change makes it less spongy – if you tried to make it & felt like the texture was not your thing.

All I did was add 2+ or so TBSP of Bob’s Redmill Organic High Fiber Cereal & a bit more protein powder. You will also have to add a bit more almond milk or egg whites to get the consistency right. Add a little at a time. LOVED  how it changed the texture a bit. I am not great at measuring but it was 2-3 TBSP. You can use oat bran or anything else like this. It does not have to be exactly what I used – use what you have at home. I also add some frozen berries sometimes too, blueberries or cherries! YUM!

OK – happy Friday to all! Feel free to comment on anything!

  1. Love that image and your message! It’s absolutely OK to not be OK. I think that we all get so caught up in wanting to appear perfect that we don’t allow ourselves time to be down, which is totally natural.

  4. I’m so very much with you on it’s ok to not be ok. Gosh, if I am really down and start seeing all these messages about making your own happiness, and you choose, blah blah blah, that starts to make you feel like it’s all your fault for being down. I agree that it’s easy to get into a funk and drag ourselves down with negative thoughts. We need to find the positives. Totally agree and I say that often, find the happiness in the little things. But if you suffer from depression, it’s not always so easy as just “deciding” to be happy. Trust me, I’d LOVE that. Oh ok, I’m HAPPY today. I think it’s easy to forget that we need to let out our feelings even if it’s sadness or anger. Letting it out is cleansing as long as we don’t wallow. (and I’ll stop rambling now …)

  5. I read somewhere that we are not responsible for our emotions, only how we react to those emotions. It went on tom say that those who punish themselves for how they feel will shorten their lives!

  6. I agree that we should allow ourselves to freely feel what we feel. The problem comes in when we don’t allow ourselves to work out of, or around, them. There’s a wonderful quote for which I can’t remember the attribution: “You don’t drown by falling into water; you only drown if you stay there.” One of my favorites.
