This is my own personal cause & for those that don't have one, they may want to think about donating to one of the Sarcoma
Foundations below. My mother passed away from a rare form of cancer called Lipsarcoma. It is one of about 50 subtypes of sarcomas that affect all age groups from the youngest to the oldest. It is a
"a cancer that begins in the muscle, fat, fibrous tissue, blood vessels, or other supporting tissue of the body". There is no cure & funding is low because of its rarity. As some of you may know,
the rarer the form of cancer, the less money that is usually allocated to it by the larger organizations or the NIH (National Health Institute) as well as fewer people donate because they just don't
know about it. This cancer just keeps coming back, grows back where it already was & spreads to other areas as well. You can learn more about it at these links.

Feet Update-Running, Weights, Walking - Hoka Love
Tuesday February 21, 2012
Almost 10 months ago, I wrote about how bad my feet had become due to the fat pads in the balls of my feet. There was basically nothing left there to absorb workouts or even walking without pain. So, my cardio, weights & just walking became almost too painful to handle no matter what I tried to alleviate the pain. I tried all kinds of inserts but none worked for me.
It was SO BAD that I would walk up & down the stairs sideways so I would not put any pressure on the balls of my feet. It hurt to even walk on the carpet in the house. When I went out with my husband, I could barely walk around without pain. He was used to telling me to slow down & now he found me barely able to even walk from one place to another without pain. I was at the point that I would tell him to park close to every location when I used to park as far back as possible.
In came Sheri who recommended the Hoka OneOne Running shoes to me. It was immediate relief! I was back to doing all my workouts (cardio AND weights) but once I took the shoes off, my feet still hurt. Walking in regular ole tennis walking shoes was still painful. Walking barefoot in the house on carpet was still painful.
Almost 10 months later, it is amazing how much better my feet are from way back then! Yes, I can still slightly feel the problem & eventually I may fix it if I come up with the $5000 dollars it costs to fix this problem but for now, all is good!
I can walk just fine in regular tennis/walking shoes BUT I sure would love a pair of the Hoka OneOne walking shoes for every day... hint hint! I can only afford my running ones right now. I walk up & down the stairs normally. I can walk fast again & have hubby tell me to slow down. I don't have pain when I take the shoes off except for a very little after my outside runs. That makes sense since the pounding is so much harder than on a treadmill. I also can do all those exercises which required me putting weight on the balls of my feet like step ups & certain lunges & more! I have cut back on plyometrics to be safe but I can do that again too!
So thankful to Sheri for sending me their way & to Hoka OneOne for shoes that saved my exercise life.
I will also say for those of you with plantar fasciitis or chronic Achilles tendonitis, I have read plenty of posts on the Hoka FB page about how the Hoka running shoes have allowed them to run again.Just passing on info I read on the FB page.I AM NOT A DOCTOR!Also read Sheri's story & how they helped her run again - an amazing story!
So, my feet are so much better since I first started wearing my Hoka OneOne running shoes! LOVE THEM! I know they are not for everybody but for me, a workout lifesaver & that means every aspect of my workouts, not just cardio. I could not even walk the weight room floor without pain before these shoes!
Yes, I found these shoes when my feet got bad but honestly, I like them the best of any shoe I have worn. Wish I found them sooner!!! I am NOT getting paid to write this & received nothing for free. I just love these shoes & what they have done for me.
That is it - just wanted to update you on my feet since I first wrote about them close to a year ago. Anyone want to share stories?
PS: Please DO NOT leave any rude comments about how your way is the only way. I understand people love their barefoot & minimalist running but it does not mean it is right for all people. None of this your way or the highway. Yes, I love the things that work for me & share them here BUT I never say my way or the highway! Well, unless I say food is 75-80% of weight loss & ya have to have consistency & patience. I do say find what works for you though!

What really matters is that your feet are feeling better. I have never tried Hokas and usually run in minimalist shoes or barefoot but heard many people swear by them, one of those people being my wild ultrarunning friend who ran over 4,600mi last year. I am glad you found shoes that helped your feet even if those shoes do look a bit funny. Then again, running barefoot looks funny too. Reply to this
