Social Media/Work - How Important Is it?

quotes about life

I had a different post for today but something happened so I decided to write this one instead.

Yes, I know social media is very important in the scheme of things these days. Yes, most of us have to work to survive.

BUT, do either of those things notice the smile on your child or loved one's face? Do either of those notice the frown or sad look on your child or loved one's face?

I got some UGH news yesterday - not about me but someone close to me.

I had already decided to step away from the social media for a bit yesterday & enjoy our beautiful weather. BUT, then I got the news... I was so glad I stepped away!!! I stayed away longer than I first planned for - I sat & thought about life & how we get so caught up in the trivial.

Yes, many of us have to work & often we let that work take control of our lives. We forget that the little things in life become the big things in life. The older you get, the more you will understand this so PLEASE try to learn this at a younger age. When we are young, we tend to think that we always have another day or another week or another month but that is not always the case....

Let me tell you from experience! It is a very hard lesson to learn the hard way.

Social media AND work can be crazy. We get caught up in it & miss those little things that can mean so much.

Can you all just take a little time out of your day today to step away from the craziness & enjoy the small things - whatever that may be for you - PLEASE! Each day, can you take just 10 minutes if that is all you have to give your full attention to the little things?

PLEASE DO THIS FOR YOU & YOUR LOVED ONES!

Thank you & I hope you are walking away from the computer right now, if only for a bit!

IT IS NOT "COOKIE DAY" FOR ME BUT I MAY HAVE ONE ANYWAY!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Lately I am surrounded by technology, if not my computer on my lap here at home its work; or my iphone. I need to unplug, but to be honest I love it a little addicted I think. I love to read and blog. LOL!

I do try to step away in the evenings so me and hubby have our times together and then while I am walking. Take care of yourself Jody!

I'm sorry about your ugh news, Jody.

I'm beginning to find that time spent away from the computer is almost always more rewarding than time spent on it. (Blog reading excluded, of course.)

Thank you so much for this Jody. It is so easy to get carried away from the computer. My business and livlihood is online. I tend to have my iPhone on my body or next to it 24/7. I've worked really hard to try to set "hours" that I'll respond to emails. Being online all the time, it weaves into hopping over to Facebook too often..or taking a break from creating to go to Facebook, blogs etc. I've been making sure to take time in the afternoons to connect with my kids after school and at dinner, and snuggle with and talk to them at bedtime. Those are the moments that really matter!

This is a great reminder. And our lives really are different now with the instant communication and social media and all the devices people carry with them. Sometimes I worry about my kids, growing up not knowing thing any other way.

Hi Jody! I once read a book that said to "look for happiness with a small h, not a capital one." It is good advice.

Sorry you have had an ugh experience - hope that it turns around for the better.

Unplugging is a must from time to time. We can't immerse ourselves into any means of contacting solely I believe, we need to dabble in all and experience what each offers the others cannot.

If I make a retarded child smile daily, it's a good day. If I make a parent proud of their kid once a week it's a good week. If I get my reports finished by the end of the month, it's a good month. If I see a falling star during my 5 a.m. runs BEFORE work, it's a good run. If I get to swim and bike with hubby on the weekend, it's a good weekend. If I get an "A" on my quiz in my graduate class, it's a happy time. If I get to talk to my beautiful daughter once a week, it's icing on the cake. If I get to do my crafts it means I got some down time. And I eat cookies probably every day. Who would deprive themselves a cookie or two? There is way more to life than standing in front of a mirror trying to "get" the "right" look.
