ME First - Yes, I Went There! Happy Hanukkah!

Tuesday December 20, 2011

HAPPY HANUKKAH to all that celebrate! I saw the first pic on a Karen's FB page & then saw this other one & had to share both! May want to play the original Hanukkah song from Adam Sandler too!

On to regular programming!

So, what so I mean by that title, ME First? What I mean is that you have to make yourself a priority in life to be the best you can for you & anyone else around you.

I know it is hard these days with how busy we all are in life, not just during holiday time but day to day. We MUST CHOOSE to make our health & our body & our mental well being a priority! We can't be good for others if we are not good for ourselves!

As you move thru the rest of December with holiday parties & gatherings, learn that the word NO is not an evil word. If you have too many obligations, pick the couple that mean the most to you & go. Don't overwhelm yourself trying to go to every invite. No thank you will do. If you don't want to eat something & food pushers are pushing, No thank you will do. If somebody says you can go ahead & skip your workouts or time set aside to exercise or even chill out, No thank you will do.

Give yourself a gift now and for 2012 - the gift of health. Me first is not a bad thing in the way I am talking about it here. You deserve it - Give yourself the permission for me first! You will be a better mom, wife, husband, lover, friend, co-worker and any other "title" you call yourself.

What do you think? Can you give yourself this gift? I posted this on my FB page. IT IS WORTH IT!

I love this Jody! I think so many people obligate themselves to things just because of the time of year and then dread this time of year the next time.

I think also it starts to breakdown their mental strength to stay strong on their plan.

You are so right. For some reason it is time honored tradition that a guest eats it all - not doing so often offends the host. You should meet my aunt whose mission in life is to feed people. As much as I love her, I am so glad she lives across the ocean.
    Happy Hanukah, Jody!

Invariably, people come to me after their holiday damage to ask me to help undo it.

I have a different opinion on this as you know. I suggest that what one eats bewteen Christmas and Thanksgiving matters much more than what one eats between Thanksgiving and Christmas (Dr. J currently cringing).

Sometimes, SOMETIMES, there can be joy in the ritual of pie. It's the excess -- the gluttony that we should all live without.

Roy, I am in no way saying don't enjoy - just saying do what is right for you. As I have written in previous posts, I plan for my treats & enjoy them & encourage others to do what they want to BUT OWN IT when they do & move on afterward! Don't let it bog you down with the proverbial : I ruined it so I might as well give up" thing.

May I jump in on this conversation?
For some of us, food addicts, rich holiday foods are triggers. I am often wondering if the fact that we overeat after the holidays is not unlike an experience of an alcoholic in treatment who got talked into "just one won't hurt you".
So yes, I will allow myself some 'good' stuff but I know I will suffer the day after. Maybe I'll go on a day long hike without any food. Hmm...

Thanks for the pep talk, Jody. And Happy Hanukah to you! Honestly, I hadn't even paid attention to when it started since my youngest doesn't come home until late tonight. I wonder if I have any candles?

Keep pushing the good message, Jody, you know we all support you!

I don't mind what Roy said as a normal behavior. The problem as I see it is, the vast majority of people who eat poorly during the holidays keep it going, and going, and going... like the un-energetic bunny

I don't know a single mom who couldn't benefit from taking your advice. But we all need to be strong when it comes to the food pushers, right?

So true. Women in particular tend to put themselves last - much to their detriment.
