Help Fight Childhood Hunger in America

I had a different post for today but after watching a recorded Dr. Oz from today, I thought I would share this & postpone my regular post until tomorrow.
As we all blog about our diets & weight loss plans & how we ate too much, nearly 1 in 5 children in America can't count on getting enough food to eat. This should not be happening in this country. This hunger leads to many health issues now & later in life. Their inability to concentrate in school effects their chances for a better life!
Share our Strength is working with Dr. Oz to HELP FIGHT CHILDHOOD HUNGER.Please read these stats from Share Our Strength whose goal is to end childhood hunger in America:
Hunger in America
Nearly one in five children in America can’t count on having enough to eat. Their bodies may not be rail thin, nor their bellies bloated like their counterparts in other countries, but they’re at risk of hunger all the same. They lack the energy to learn, grow and thrive. Download the 2011 Childhood Hunger Factsheet.
- More than 16 million children in America are at risk of hunger. That’s more than 1 in 5.
- 15.7 million children in America live in poverty.
- 18.6 million children benefit from SNAP (food stamps).
- Over 20 million children get a free or reduced-price school lunch on an average school day.
- Only 10.5 million children get a free or reduced-price school breakfast on an average school day.
- 6 out of 7 children do not get the free summer meals they are eligible for.

Dr. Oz asked his viewers to donate just $5 to this organization and/or check with their local community to see if they can help there. The previous local community link will take you to a page on the DR. Oz sight where you can search by state for local food banks. Many communities have programs that provide backpacks of food to get the children thru the weekend when they may not get the food the children receive at school during the week. One story about this is HERE but there are many more.
My household has been hit very hard the past couple years & we are struggling but I plan on donating. CAN YOU?
Please donate to Share Our Strength OR your local community to help fight hunger for o the children in America!
CAN YOU PLEASE SHARE ON YOUR FB PAGE, TWEET OR HOWEVER YOU WANT TO SHARE. LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS THAT YOU DID DONATE & ASK OTHERS TO COME HERE & LET ME KNOW TOO.
I plan to write Dr. Oz & let him know what our blogging community did to fight hunger in America. I think we all can donate $5 and/or help a local food shelter.
THANK YOU!!!!

Childhood hunger issues have been one of my hot button issues for years. I'm amazed at the number of people who *resent* public assistance for kids. I'm not sure if they expect them to go out and get jobs or just to starve to death, but they begrudge those kids every morsel of food they're given. it boggles my mind.
I may be on a limited budget this year, but the local food bank is still on my must-contribute list.
