Start 2012 Feeling Good!

If you missed my last Friday post, the pic above was there & wanted to share again because it is the real thing. I also discussed the word "fail" over at the Friday post which was about post holiday help. I am sure a lot of you were not blogging or even on social media that day so if you want some ideas to get back to it, check it out!
I think the 2 biggest things people do are:
1. Decide that the holidays will be filled with parties & get togethers so they might as well "give it up" until January
OR
2. Decide that they screwed up & they might as well give up.
Here is what I say to both of these: NO! Are you kidding me - NOT!!!
Seriously, if you are even thinking of one of the above - don't do it! Would you rather start 2012 at the same weight or maybe 1-2 pounds over versus 5 pounds over? There is no reason not to just keep plugging away at your weight loss plan now & right thru the holidays. Feel good about how you start the new year.
I know that news reports are saying people really only gain 1 pound thru the holidays. I have no idea who those people are or maybe they are 6' tall. From experience, I can tell you that a 5'1" person can gain 5 pounds in a week eating like it was a holiday!!!
Weight Loss & maintenance is all about consistency & patience. Keep at it no matter what! Plan for events & parties & get togethers so you can figure out how to fit in some exercise. Maybe you eat a bit stricter than normal leading up to events or parties or go for a walk before or after the event. Something is always better than nothing!
You can make it thru the holidays is you try!!! Don't use the excuse thing like I found over at Carb Tripper's place!

What is your plan to get thru the holidays in tact & without starting 2012 feeling UGH???

After cutting out *everything* the first year and having a semi-miserable holiday, I've learned to eat as squeaky clean as I can if I'm not at a party or event (which, sadly, is about 95% of the time between now and the new year) and to keep to my exercise schedule.
With that, I'm off to the gym at 5-freaking-30 a.m.!

Love the excuse chart!!!
My plan to get through the holidays...? I just keep listening to the little Dr. J on my shoulder. He speaks softly, but in hard words

Enjoying the time, everything doesn't have to be about the food!!! And making time for me, to cook like I need to, to work out like I enjoy, I even think Santa Karla is going to drop bye and get me new gym shoes
I feel too good inside my skin right now at this point in my life to throw it all away!!! I have come too far, and I know now how great I can feel. food only is for a few moments, but feeling good about myself lasts a heck of a lot longer than food!!

I'll admit it - in the past I often did exactly that during the holiday season. Not this year. I just won't/can't do that again. But, honestly, my plan is to do stick with routine and healthy eating but allow myself to splurge at the social gatherings. I know this is less than ideal. But, baby steps.

I don't know, for me, I just keep working our and eating a normal amount of food and my weight stays level.
I suspect that our focused trinity of you, Roy, and the wholly doctor will get through this season just fine

My huge down fall is the finger food....I just love it so much but it is so high in calories and once you are by the food table I just keep munching...bad bad bad. I try to avoid the table altogether or grab a small plate and leave.

Sian, yes, maybe stay away, keep a glass of water in one hand & a conversation with another in the other!

VERY wise advice!
And yeah, the holidays are a challenge, but there's no need to abandon all common sense. Indulge a bit, skip a workout or two, but get right back to your routine. And hey, you can even bank a few really really good days here and there to make up for celebrations to come, and you'll be much happier come january.
Great post!

Yes, Crabby - it is doable if we really want it! I plan to start 2012 ahead of the game!

My plan is not to gain any weight during the holidays. That is totally doable if I just keep the cookies in check!

Lori - I have trouble staying away from the cookies I love but a good thing I plan for them & leave it to the weekends!

Holidays are not going to bother me this year. 1 Day down and a few more to go I say. I love my health too much and how I feel to much to do any damage.
