Exercise, Weight Loss & Health Links; Happy Bday!
LOVE THIS PIC!
First, another bday in the family - my brother! HAPPY BDAY! He is 7 years older than I am so he was sort of out of the house before I knew what was happening!
I have so many different sites I look at & I want to share great articles & posts SO .. I have decided to share the links instead BUT tell you what they link to so you can decide which you want to read or not read. I hope I don't overwhelm you with too many! Just book mark or copy & paste to save for later. Hope you enjoy! Well, after some of them, you may come back & say ENJOY was not quite the word you would have used yourself!
1. Kris Beal showed me Hollow Rocks! You can read her post about her Crossfit experience & that is where she linked to hollow rocks. They are much harder than they appear!
2. Avoid Strength Training Plateaus by ACE, American Council on Fitness. This is a short 3 minute video but great suggestions! It seems to common sense to those of of us that have worked out forever BUT I see some of the mistakes discussed in this video done by the same people in the gym year after year LIKE doing the same exercises in the same order with the same weight workout after workout.
3. Motivation to Exercise: A great read from ACE and the end paragraph says a lot: "Remember that in the end, it’s how you talk with yourself, think of yourself and define yourself. “It's not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.” If you think you are not the type to exercise, unable to, don’t deserve to, you need to bring logical, more accurate and rational response counters along with your towel and water bottle with you when you hit the gym floor."
4. Skinny Fat: I have known about this for years but it just seemed to hit the media more in the past year or so. Being skinny does NOT mean healthy! You can be skinny yet still have a higher body fat % or be at risk for Osteopenia, a pre-osteoporosis state characterized by the a reduction in bone density and an increased risk for osteoporosis. More & more young ladies are getting this due to the intense pressure to be thin! Don't be fooled by being thin if you are not eating right nor doing resistance exercise!
5. Burn 100 calories with these easy ideas: From FitandFabLiving. We all know small steps lead to long term results. Think how easy it would be to do all of these or more than 1 a day. Burning off 500 calories a day by eating say 250 calories less & burning off 250 calories more with movement adds up to a pound a week - there are 3500 calories in a pound so 500 x 7 days. Make up your own 100 calorie movements per day!
Also from FitandFabLiving (since I just got my hair done): Make Your Hair Color Last Longer.
Also don't forget that Running with Mascara is the official blog of FitandFabLiving. Lots of Giveaways there.
6. Tighten up those glutes/butt/booty with this video from Scott Herman. Can be done at home or travel & by adding weights or resistance bands, you can make it harder! If squatting low hurts your knees or joints, just modify to parallel.
7. Single leg hip thrusts: A different version was shown in the video from Scott above but this is a really good comprehensive article with a video. Remember - PROPER FORM!!!!!
8. Help women find the doctor they need by sending your PM&M specialist's info to info@shmirshky.com. They add it to the Menopause Doctor Directory. Help your shmirshky sisters!
I think I will stop here for today. I may do more of these posts if you like them.
Your thoughts on any of the above....

As you know, I look at a lot of research articles on the Net. Too many to write about each one. I found an interesting article about how with self talk, if you are too positive and you know you are not really that person you are telling yourself you are, it will make you depressed, not lift your spirits. Reality testing, I guess.

I have a brother who is almost 7 years YOUNGER than I am. I think sometimes it's easier to be closer when the ages are further apart.

Karen - that did not work that way on my end.

I'll try to check out the video on strength training errors tonight. One thing I *don't* do is the same workout day in and day out. If I can't come up with anything inspiring on a given day, I just pull an old workout out of my bag and do it backwards.

Cammy - a backwards workout - love it!

Wow - thanks so much for the shout out! Yes... those hollow rocks ARE hard - sigh... And the skinny fat thing? Yep, I'm a perfect example of that. I've normally been "thin" to "slightly chunky" but really never healthy! So its been so important for me to focus on the health/wellness part rather than the weight. Thanks for the info! Clicky clicky I go!
