Feet/Running Stuff; HAPPY BDAY!!!!

First things first - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SIS, BETHE! She is 4 years older than me & look how amazing she looks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are both turning a year older this month, :-O!!! As you can see, there is a VOTE sign behind her. She is very active in volunteering in her area & has done amazing amazing things! Even got a call from Air Force One! It is a busy time for her being election month so she might have to celebrate after the fact! Hope there is a little fun or at least her fave treat - ice cream!
So, on to running & feet stuff. I know you have read my endless posts on my Hoka One One running shoes & how I use them for everything else I do like weight lifting, other cardio machines, just walking around!!!
Last time I wrote about these shoes, I did get one comment that mentioned that she knew people that got sore muscles from the Hoka shoes & so she was inclined not to try them.
The Hoka One One shoes are very different from your regular running shoe & especially from the minimalist or Vibram running. Some people take time to get used to them. Me, I had no trouble adjusting but I know others may have to adjust to the sole & feel. Even when I wore regular ole running shoes, if I changed brands or styles or even the same shoe from year to year, often it would take an adjustment for the new feel so this is really nothing new for me & I am guessing for others.
I am not saying they are for everyone but let me share a few stories from the Hoka FB page:
1. Bob Seebohar
I've been testing Hoka's with my chronic Achilles tendonitis. So far, my chronic pain is significantly reduced when wearing Hoka's. I am blogging about my experience. If you are interested, here's the link: 2. Just bought my first pair today. Bondi's.....takes getting used to....noticed that my calf muscles were allot tighter. I think wearing the shoes, one uses different muscles....certainly felt the responsiveness of the extra cushioning....not sure if i should run my normal millage in them or slowly break them ....wadda ya think Catra......is what I'm saying BS? You may be experiencing calf tightness because of the low heel to toe drop, appx 4mm. Typical running shoes are around 10mm. And you are also right about the use of muscles because it is not a motion control shoe. See how it goes and regulate your comfort level and your feet and legs adapt and get stronger. Most people are able to continue their regular distances. Michael, I have Stinson's and it took me a few runs to adjust from the Brooks I used to wear, but its all good now and love the extra cushion Ive heard a few people "complain" of tight calves since switching to Hokas...I never had this issue, but I did have to play around with socks, found the Mafate to be too warm when wearing some of the wool socks.. What I found I had to get used to was "spacing" on the trails, and feeling comfortable about putting my foot down in small spaces intially, now I feel really vulnerable when Im not wearing my Hokas on the trail. 3. Sheri McPherson - You know Sheri from my posts about her & she introduced me to these shoes - THANK YOU SHERI!!!
I guessed what size I wore (since no one in this STATE sells them) and ordered a pair of Bondi Bs online late last week. They came in the mail today and I had to take an early lunch to try them out when I found out the package had been delivered. I went for a quick run, and I like them! I felt like I was running on little clouds, haha. Hopefully they feel just as good on long runs. I just got a pair of these this week. Here is my attempt at a review. http://krustyonchrissy.wordpress.com/2011/10/30/surfing-the-1cloud/ Two marathons this weekend (Greenville, SC and Atlanta, GA) and broke my "combined time PR!" THANK YOU HOKA!!! First trail marathon...26.2 miles of MUD, sweat and tears (of joy). He is giving away a pair of Hoka One One for the 100th person in Great Britain to login to his website - www.runwildrunfree.co.uk. All part of the process of increasing the ever growing profile of Hoka One One in the UK

I am doing a 30 miler and 40 miler in the next 8 days. Will be updating my blog about how the Hoka's (and my Achilles) hold up.
Thanks Hoka OneOne!
From the Hoka people:
From other people that wear Hoka One One running shoes:
This shoe saved my Diabetic feet! I have neuropathy and my feet are so sensitive walking and standing were an issue for me. I tried so many shoes and then my husband tried Hoka's and it helped him (he's an ultra runner). Then I bought a pair of Mafate and I felt great NO PAIN! See my story here www.TheMotivationalGirl.blogspot.com check out my Hoka posts while your there. ![]()

And, I thought I loved my Mafates before yesterday's run..now I want to marry them! These babies are SO waterproof that my socks were DRY after running through more mud and water than I have ever seen in 30 years of running! Thank you Hoka OneOne.

7. Catra Corbett
yay 133 miles for the week. I love my Hokas. If anyone has HBO check out "Real sports" tomorrow at 10pm I will be on there running in my Hokas
))
From Jody - that show was already on BUT I did put a few of Catra's pics on my older post. She has amazing pics on the Hoka FB page!
There are a lot of other stories on the FB page if you want to check it out. Many of the runners on the FB page do marathons or ultra running races which are 50 -100 miles and lots of trail races.
Again, I am not saying they are for everybody but if they help protect the feet & joints of the runners that do the above types of races, just think about how they can help you long term. Me, yes, as you all know, I am so glad I found them thru Sheri!
This is a newer company so they are not in a lot of stores yet but here is the North America dealer locator and the Europe dealer locator.
For walkers, they have shoes specific for walking too! I am saving up to get those just for day to day walking around so I don't have to use my running shoes! ![]()
Anybody that has questions for me, feel free to leave them in a comment or email me at jody@truth2beingfit.com.

I was reading Roz's recent post about the problems she was having with her foot during her step class, and I zipped down to the comments to tell her about your love of the Hoka's...and you had just posted the same! I've never tried them, and have no $$$ to do so now, but I still advertise them based on your reviews.

After you last post about them I got online and actually found a store not far from me that supposedly carries the brand. I have a note to call them, eventually. Not sure they will work for MY foot problems but maybe

Great information! I'm passing this along to my Santa Barbara, California friend who has plantar fasciitis about the 2 stores in her area. Hope to try them myself in the near future when I can find a store nearby so I can try them on.
