The Jeans & the High School Reunion

Wednesday October 12, 2011

Those of you that read me all the time know I RARELY buy regular clothes for myself. Any money I spend is for necessities and well, to replace workout shoes or clothes, especially if those clothes are getting so thin from wear that I am scaring people with the view!

Anyway, my hubby's 40th high school reunion came up a few weeks ago. It was "casual" so we could wear jeans. My only prob was that my 2 pair of jeans are so old that they look like something the cat drug in.. well, like this, faded & well, TOO casual!

I was "forced" to buy a new pair of pants for this event & since jeans were the most practical option, I went that way. I bought these very cute jeans at Macy's for less them $40. I had tried on a pair at Nordstrom's for a lot more than that & these actually looked better per the hubby! I was hoping you could see the cute design on the pants pockets but I guess not when I compressed it. They have a bit of stretch to them but not excessive which I prefer. They also said they were "tummy control" but honestly, I did not see or feel that at all!

BTW, my hair is too long! I push my cuts out to save money so the cut is scheduled closer to my bday next month! More important to color the gray than cut that crazy hair!

As for those shoes - OMG! They are actually a pair of shoes from my corporate work days way way way back when & my feet were killing me! I wore them just for looks but they came off in the car & my hubby had to let me out right in front of the venue & then go park due to my very very bad feet I have discussed in the past. It really was a painful effort just to walk to the event room. I basically sat all night with my shoes off under the table due to the fact that I can't walk in regular shoes. Has to be my Hoka shoes or old workout shoes if my fat pads (balls of my feet) are being nice to me. They have got a little better since my Hoka shoes. More on that in a post to come. As for my boobies, a very padded bra!

I know you want a pic from that event BUT my hubby insisted that he have a goatee for this event & when he saw the pictures, he did not like it! BUT, we do have our 28th wedding anniversary coming up this weekend so I will try to look nice & take a pic of the both of us! Maybe the same outfit as above!

So I will be 54 next month & have been getting all PO'd about the changes in my bod due to the hormone attacks ... believe me, they have & a post coming up later this month too (we all know we can look better in clothes!). A new wave of them started about a month ago. Mentally & emotionally, this time of life can be a challenege for many women due to hormones going crazy. Thank god for exercise!

BUT, I DO WANT TO SAY, THAT I AM PROUD of what I have accomplished & how I look for me age!! I knew some of you might already be getting mad with the statement above so I had to clarify quick before you punched me out, well, in words!

So, what was the past piece of non workout clothing you bought for yourself & when?

You look FANTASTIC Jody!! Oh my gosh, those jeans and top look wonderful! I FEEL your pain in those shoes! You won't find me in any shoe that looks "nice" in a woman's view why? Because of my neuropathy, those boots you had on would have killed me!

I have learned over 12 years with living with this chronic pain to accept vanity is just that vanity. Its not worth my feet and if I were you, I would wear your hoka's or your other workout shoes with that outfit.

Girl, I go to church in my Hoka's when my feet are bad with a skirt work too! Don't sacrifice your feet and life for vanity, so not worth it. Your husband will agree with me I am sure.

Thx Sheri! I know, I should have worn the Hokas but was trying to look decent for the hubby! Hoka should make fancy shoes!

Jody, I completely agree with Sheri -- I haven't worn heels in 20 years and can't imagine ever going back to them. Comfort beats vanity any day, at least in my book.

You look so fantastic in those jeans -- look at your tiny butt!! Two butts of yours would equal one of mine -- but then of course, I would have 4 cheeks and that WOULD be pretty weird....hahaha

You look amazing! I am going to this event this weekend that is "creative cocktail" and while I suspect most women will have on dresses, I am wearing black pants so I can wear relatively comfortable shoes and not have them shoe too much! I'll be too casual, I am sure. But no way was I putting on heels and standing for three hours!

Karen - good for you! I was lucky as this was not "my" event so I did not mind sitting & people watching!

As I understand it, jeans are the hardest thing (well maybe a bra) for a woman to find that fits her as she likes!

    You did good!!

Thx Dr. J. You are tight. I usually try on a lot of pairs before I find one that fits decently!

Those jeans look sweet on you!! I hate buying jeans but I will check out the tip at Macy's. I buy pub tee-shirts ( ladies fit) all the time, not just because I love beer but them seem to fit and all the clothes out there seem to be made for my 17 year old daughter or my 70 year old mother.
