Gratitude Monday

Monday August 22, 2011

Welcome to Gratitude Monday. Each Monday, stop by & comment on what you are grateful for & how it will impact you to live a healthier life going forward. How it impacts you does not have to be food or exercise related. It can be in any way, shape or form! If you just want to write a grateful comment & nothing else, that is fine too. If your comment is the same as another one, so be it. Everything goes here!

Today I am grateful that I can even work out & run again. Most of you know the story of my feet probs & how without my Hoka shoes, it is difficult to do any workout much less walk & not change my gait while walking. At times, after a workout, it is hard to even walk barefoot on the carpet. So NO, no barefoot or Vibram running for me!

On the week off, I was pretty good. I could feel the probs but not nearly like when I work out & it makes the problem glaringly clear.... AND NO, I DON'T PLAN TO STOP WORKING OUT TO MAKE THINGS BETTER!  The feet will not get better without a doc office. I just felt it less when I was not pounding on them.

I recall way back when - I was saying how I am not a fan of cardio or running but I do it. Then the feet probs hit & I could not run anymore (nor do many other things without pain). Boy, I missed the running! I missed the challenge of it!

Then came my Hoka shoes (THX SHERI!). I was so glad to get back to running & everything else! Lesson learned!

PS: I know many like the minimalist movement & I say to each their own. For me, Hokas have saved my exercise life & I will wear them even if I get me feet fixed. For those with joint issues or HEEL issues, I say to try these. I have to wear them even when I do weights & legs. The thing about legs is you want to feel where you are pushing from when you do squats, presses, lunges etc. - like thru the heels. These shoes work so good that I can't even feel that push thru the heels. I have a pretty dang good mind/muscle link & it takes all my concentration with legs to feel it all - BUT it is the Hokas or no exercise due to my feet issues so I wear my Hokas for everything!

Also, the joints. I have worn exercise specific shoes all my life - GOOD shoes & inserts as well to help my flatter & bunion feet. I still had joint issues - feeling them as I got older meaning 30's, 40's etc. Since my Hokas, my joints have felt great & I wear NO inserts in my shoes!

I am not saying they are for everyone & I respect those that run barefoot or with Vibrams if they want to do that. I am just saying these have worked wonders for me!

So, I am thankful that I can exercise & walk & run & do things that honestly many others can't do.

What are you grateful & thankful for today? Lessons learned?
