Stress Less, Weigh Less: Follow Holly to Increase Energy, Eat the Food You Love, and Enjoy an Ageless Body

Welcome to week 2 of Gratitude Monday. If you missed last week, you can view it HERE. Each Monday, stop by & comment on what you are grateful for & how it will impact you to live a healthier life going forward. How it impacts you does not have to be food or exercise related. It can be in any way, shape or form! If you just want to write a grateful comment & nothing else, that is fine too. If your comment is the same as another one, so be it. Everything goes here!

Today I am grateful to have met Holly Mosier (see above pic on her book) who is co-owner of the LA Boxing studio I went to for those out of the comfort zone classes I took there!

Holly wrote this AMAZING book and is offering up a free signed copy along with her 10 minute yoga DVD to go with it!!!

First, let me tell you a bit about the book. This is NOT a diet book. This is a lifestyle book that talks about your mind/body connection. A lot of the book discusses how to clear the mind from stress & that "junk" in your head that comes with either a crazy busy schedule & life and/or just the muck that sucks up good thoughts from your mind. My words, not Holly's words!!!

In Holly's book, right in the preface she says: "I'll walk you through my 3 part strategy which begins where all weight loss should - with your mind - and continues to places others don't like stress-management training." Of course she talks about exercise & food as well.

She also says this: "But weight loss isn't really a battle with the body; it's a battle with the mind." From Jody - Yes, we know it is a battle with the body BUT it is our mind that stops us or screws up our progress or the many other myriad of things that drive us crazy - the mind!

Holly explains that one day in her office with her head on her desk, exhausted from the stress of long days, work stress, the troubles at home with a molded family & more, a friend walked in to her office and said: "The reason you are so depressed is that you are focusing all the time on what has gone wrong in your life. But there are still alot of things going right." This started Holly right then writing down things she was grateful for in her life. She took the list with her everywhere & whenever the mind started down the gloom road, she pulled it out to get herself back on track.

That is why I started Gratitude Monday - to see if it would help us all! Thx Holly!

Holly also says this: "Every emotion we feel was generated by a thought.... you feel miserable, isn't that triggered by first thinking about something that displeased you? Because I know that my emotions will flow from my thoughts, I focus on improving my thoughts rather than scrambling to apply first aid to my feelings.." From Jody - Holly talks about changing her thoughts which helped change her emotional reaction to the thoughts.

Holly also talks about her Focused breathing ( Four-Count Breath) stress reducer & her love of meditation. Again, she says people can ease into it BUT she also talks about ways to just do the exercise wherever you are & in times of stress. She helps you fit it into your life. There is a part in her book where she talks about when her grandma had to be moved from her home to a senior facility. Her grandma said: "Happiness does not depend on the contents of your surroundings. Happiness depends on the contents of your mind." You have to read the story in her book!

There is a section on Opting Out! You all know this as learning to say NO when you have to!!!! Great part of the book!

There is a whole section on her love of yoga along with pictures to help you thru a beginning, intermediate or advanced 10 minute program. Holly took it further and took 500 hours of training & is a registered Yoga Teacher. She does not push it on you although she talks of her love of it & how it has helped her. She does recommend at least her 10 minute programs & I think many of us could fit in those 10 minutes!

Of course she discusses food & exercise. What I love about this book & Holly is that she always qualifies that people are different so what she does will not always exactly work for another BUT she also shows how things may be different & how you can change it for you. Even with formulations for body fat & BMI, she discusses how you may not fit into the exact formulation (like me who is more muscle). BUT also, that maybe you are happy at a bit higher weight than the formulation puts you at ... as long as you are healthy, why not, says Holly! She is 1" taller than me but I am about 8 pounds heavier than she is due to my muscles & yes, my body type is different than hers.

I really love this aspect of her book, that one thing does not fit all aspect! Also, we all know that many people talk stress reduction & making a gratitude list & many other things BUT I think it is the way one says it or presents it that makes a huge difference & Holly does that in her book!

Honestly, I could go on & on but then you might not get thru the post.... I highly recommend this book! Even if the food & exercise part is not exactly for you, the mind & stress release part is a must! Me, I lift heavier than Holly but that is what I want for me. She is doing what works for her & it does! Don't forget she does kickboxing & boxing too! She honestly looks in person just like the pics in the book. They may have photoshopped, I don't know, BUT I know her face to face & she is all as fit & toned & beautiful in person as in these pics!

OK - How to be the winner of the signed copy of her book along with the 10 minute yoga DVD:

1. Leave a comment saying what you are grateful for today - of course - it is Grateful Monday. You can leave any other comment as well - as always!

2. For an extra entry, share on your FB page OR tweet it out. The only reason I am doing this is because I really loved this book & I want to get people knowing about it & buying it.....

Giveaway Winner, picked by a random number generator, will be announced next Grateful Monday, June 13, 2011.

Canada readers, the link Amazon to buy the book is HERE.

Jody, please don't enter me in the drawing. Holly's book sounds very nice, but I am not doing a lot of book reading these days.

But, I did want to take part in your gratitude Mondays. This week I am especially grateful for having a roof over my head. I continually read myriad news stories about people who have lost their homes to flood, fire, earthquake, eviction, tornado, and all kinds of disasters. We want to sell our home and move on, but we've tried before and hardly anyone is buying in our area. Instead of going crazy about the fact that this nails our feet to the area longer than we want to be here, I remain focused on the fact that we DO have a comfortable, paid-in-full home in a safe neighborhood and for this I am very, very grateful.

Good review, Jody! Letting go of the icky stuff really does free up a lot of energy to take care of business. I'm grateful that I know that. And that my daily gratitude journal was full last week!

Gratitude is the only reason I can come up with for why I've been so blessed

I like the lean, strong look myself. As a martial artist it's functional fitness for me, and it trans;ates pretty good to wearing scrubs too

It sounds like a great book. I definitely agree with her thoughts on how our thinking can lead to success or failure. One of the best ways I've found to psych myself up for a good day is to take a long walk or bike ride and just be alone with my thoughts. It never fails to put me in a good frame of mind.

I'm grateful for a renewed sense of motivation this week.
