What Would You Choose Food Over; Happy Bdays!

Wednesday March 23, 2011

OK, First I have to say a very Happy Bday to my sister's hubby Mr Bob as we call him! Enjoy! I know you will! Also my niece Cheryl has a bday too - happy happy!

Also, you will notice a video for the New Face of Fila Contest on my Facebook page. That is my entry & it is not up on the official site yet as I write this Tuesday night. I will post about it again Thursday & if I have a link to where you can vote, I will post that as well BUT FOR NOW, CHECK OUT MY FB PAGE!

Thanks to some of the bloggers out there, I heard about the show Heavy on A&E. Each show they focus on 2 people & their struggle to lose weight. It is really a comprehensive show showing how these people got so heavy & the emotional baggage behind it. They show them being weighed, talk about the health issues & risk factors, show them in meetings with the physiologist discussing the emotional part, the workouts from day one, the journey & then home. They also put an update at the end of the show on how they are doing.

One part of the show is when they go to the grocery store to learn how to shop, how to read labels and TO LEARN really how many calories & what they are ingesting along with the make up of the food.

This past Monday, Patty filled her basket. The Dietician pulled out a box of donuts, I think it was & asked her to read the serving size - 1 donut was 290 calories. The Dietician asked her how many she would eat at one sitting. She said the whole box which would be about over 2300 calories!!!!

Patty started crying and she said:

I CHOSE FOOD OVER MY GRANDCHILDREN.  The realization of how important food had become & what she was sacrificing for it.

So my question is: What are you choosing food over? What are you sacrificing? And does looking at it this way make you think more about changing your eating habits?

I just like that cat pic & we can apply it to people too!

I honestly think this mentality can be looked at from any addiction. Just like smoking... for me, I was choosing smoking over my child, who asked me over and over to quit. Not only was I putting myself at risk, in the eyes of my child, I was choosing something over him. He's going on 13 now, but when he was 5 and came home from school and crushed my cigarettes and told me they were drugs, and he didn't want his mom doing drugs, it crushed me, yet I continued with my addiction over the one thing my child had ever really asked of me.

Addictions are hard, but in the end, they are self-gratifying as well as self-destructive.

Almost nothing, these days. I've finally gotten to a point that I can control it, instead of the other way around. Wonderful, relaxing place to be.

Great post! I need to focus more on what I want my body to do for me, what I want to use it for now and in the future, and not about instant gratification with food.

Great way to think about it! Sometimes you just got to be super truthful about what people are doing to themselves...

Sian, sometimes the truth smacks us in the face but it is a good smack - a learning one!

A lot of us live in denial about many different habits, that is for sure. Many times we think about what we have to give up to get results, but really think instead about what we *gain* by making changes.

It makes me very sad when I think about what people have sacrificed because of their addiction to food.

Hi Jody, OMG, that "I can't get into my own pants" cartoon is actually up in my hairdresser's bathroom!!! Too funny. I don't feel like I'm sacrificing much at all in this journey to fit. It makes me feel good to finally be kind to my body. Have a great day.

When your in the midst of the battle of choosing to lose or staying fat, I remember how easy it was to choose food!

However, when I found out I had Adult onset Type 1 Diabetes and how fragile my health had become I chose life. Sadly, some people do not.

Good question. I don't have an answer. But I will think about it. I have seen that show a few times. It is amazing how many shows there are now about weight and weight loss. Another one: Shedding for the Wedding!

I go for vegetables and fruits. I'm not really fond of eating sweets and other high fat foods because I know that it is not good for our health. We should be wary of the food that we eat because the results maybe fatal. So practice a healthy living by eating good foods.
