RiceSelect Giveaway & Recipes

Monday March 14, 2011

I was contacted to try out a couple products from
RiceSelect. I was sent the Texmati White Rice & the Texmati Brown Rice. I am not a big rice eater. It is not that I don't like it but I just tend to eat other things. It is like pasta - people love it but it is just not something I eat as I prefer other foods. BUT, I thought it would be nice for the hubby because he likes rice.

There are many ways to spice up rice as well with different herbs & spices. You can add veggies or a protein source of your liking or you can just use it as a base to put a piece of chicken or fish or even an egg or two on top of it. You can do the mix in of veggies or protein source of your choice (including hard boiled eggs) & take it to work or school for a lunch meal.. it would be fine cold too!

I followed the directions on the jar & had no trouble making it - and from me, that is a good thing! It came out nice & fluffy! I added in a little bit of butter & some parmesan cheese for the hubby to the white rice. He really liked it! I am a brown rice type of gal but both tasted great to me!

SparkPeople had some recipes on their site using rice that you can check out HERE.

I also found this breakfast recipe from Bethenny Frankel. You substitute another type of milk if you don't like soy milk. Me, I would probably add in some protein powder!

Healthy Brown Rice Breakfast

A tasty alternative to oatmeal.

  • 1/2 cup brown rice
  • 1/4 C soy milk
  • 1/2 sp. cinnamon
  • 1 T dried cranberries or raisins
  • 1 tsp. sliced almonds
  • 1 T maple syrup
  1. Combine 1/2 cup brown rice with 1/4 C soy milk, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 T dried cranberries or raisins, 1 tsp. sliced almonds and 1 T maple syrup in a saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium heat.

Allreicpes had this version of a brown rice breakfast porridge. If you felt like you wanted to cut back on the fat grams, you could leave out the butter or do 1% milk.

There are a lot of ways to use rice if you are a rice liker or lover!!!!

I love rice! It's SO versatile -- and I love that I can make a whole bag at the beginning of the week and be done! I've never tried eggs with rice but that actually sounds great -- maybe a couple of drippy eggs over a bed of rice? YUM

I usually have brown rice at least once a week. With food combining, I don't think even white rice is a problem with glycemic index for healthy folks. Gotta like The China Study. Rice and its variants was probably the first grain eaten by humans.

Rice for breakfast? Oh...I'm excited. I love rice and I have a serious thing for rice pudding -to me it seems like having that for breakfast.

We make it a lot for my teen for a side dish. We got a rice cooker a few years ago and it gets a lot of use. When teen heads to college, hubby and I will switch to brown which we both prefer. (I don't eat the white at all; hubby does sometimes.)

RICE! My kids love the stuff, they'd eat it 24x7 if allowed. Although they have never asked for it for breakfast to be honest. I shall offer it to them and see what they say back, should be good for a laugh.

p.s... thanks for the emails checking in on me, very kind of you and much appreciated!
