Blog Award & Personal Insights

Monday January 24, 2011

So I received this cool award from Sheri over at Motivation for Health and Fitness. Thx Sheri! Here is what I am supposed to do:

1.  Post and link back to the person who awarded you this award
2.  Share 7 things about yourself
3.  Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers (or as many as you can)
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them they’ve won!

I am one of those that really does not like to single out bloggers to give awards to cause I love ya all so I will just provide some "stuff" about me & hope that I don't bore you to death! I linked to Sheri so I did that part of it!

OK, here we go - set the snooze alarm just in case!

1. When I was a kid, I would cartwheel up & down the street to see how many I could do in a row - LOTS & LOTS! I also would hoola hoop as long as possible. We would have contests with the other kids in the neighborhood on both of these & lots of times I won. I think that is when I realized I was ""coordinated". Did not improve my "being fat" self esteem but inside, I felt like I could do something right.

2. When I was just 5-6ish.. my Dad & Mom drove us cross country from the East coast (Mass.)  on a "vacation". I am sure not much of a vacation for them with 4 kids! I was so amazed at seeing the bears along side the road in Yellowstone, still remember Old Faithful & the geysers & definitely remember the camping. Sorry, no camping for me anymore!

3. I was a cheerleader in junior high. As bad as I felt about myself & being fat then, I still knew that I was good at this & it was like 2 totally different parts of me battling. I remember distinctly not liking myself but thrilled that I was good at this.

4. I was on Drill Team in high school. Same as above EXCEPT that I tried out & made it when I was heavy & by the next school year when I actually got to perform, I had lost a ton of weight. Again, like above, I still had all the feeling of a fat girl inside but proud that I was good at this.

5. As good as I am at my fitness & healthy eating & staying fit, I struggle immensely with the real world stuff..... I make a ton of mistakes in real life & still struggling to pull that together.

6. I am not happy with aging gracefully! I guess some of you ladies out there that are still young or even early 40's will understand this later on. It all started hitting me in my late 40's & more so 50 & after. Now, it is complete craziness! I am proud to say it pisses me off to no end! After years & years of that monthly crap & acne & all the rest, it just attacks more later in life. Plus you lose hair on your head where you want it & grow it way too many places where you don't want it & it certainly does not act the same as younger hair on the face! Why should I be graceful about this! In the first episode of Hot in Cleveland, Betty White said it best: She still feels young at heart but sometimes looking in the mirror pisses her off!  I so agree!!! I still feel mentally sometimes like a 30 year old & that I can act & dress that way BUT when I look in the mirror, oh yes, a lot of the face stuff pisses me off & some of the bod stuff that you guys can't see! TMI to discuss it further!

7. Of course you all know I love the weight lifting.. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! But if you were to ask me to name my fav exercise or body part, for me, that would be hard. I love seeing the way the body responds to weights with it all. Of course I really like my arms as they show it the most but every body part has it's "fun" to me.. even if it is a love/hate relationship.

So there ya go. I wanted to make this a bit about me & my struggles as well so it may be a learning experience for some of you, that you may not feel alone seeing that I struggled & still struggle mentally as well.

Feel free to comment away or even ask some questions that you might want to know...

Don't forget the GIVEAWAY!

Loved these. I LOL at the aging one. Darn adult acne And thinning hair. Sigh. Oh - and middle-aged spreading waist! So... I am almost hesitant to tell you I just gave you another award today. This one is in appreciation of your incredible honesty in supporting so many of us on our journeys. I think it sets you apart in a very good way

Karen, thx for the award! You are too sweet! Actually the thinning hair bothers me less than how much is growing in over every inch of my face & eyelids & everywhere EXCEPT my eyebrows! What is with that!

Thanks Jody for participating! I loved hearing about you!

I so agree on the aging process its not fair that we had to go through so many monthly issues as women and then we age....so maddening! The growing of hair in places cracked me up. I hate having to get waxed, painful process!

Glad you reminded us that you love weight lifting, for a moment there I began to wonder how you got your smokin hot looks from just cartwheeling. I was ready to plunk down my three easy payments of $19.99 for "Jody's Rip & Shred Cartwheel'cise". Fine, back to my bench presses I go!

    Thanks for sharing these Jody!

Even though I am in my early 40s, sometimes I feel bad that I spent so much of my life overweight and now see the affects of that, which may not have been so apparent if I had lost the weight at a younger age.

We have a running joke at my house about my forehead wrinkle. It's between my eyebrows and we now jokingly call it a crevasse LOL! When I was looking for a wrinkle cream, John politely pointed out that what I bought was not crevasse cream. Good thing I really love him

Lori, TOO FUNNY! Your hubby sounds like mine & things he would say too! I have a crease like that too but also have these lines all across my forehead... have for my adult life. People tell me to relax & I tell them I AM! They think I am not due to the lines. Only surgery will help.. I don't even think botox would smooth them out!

I agree with you about all the crap we have to deal with as we age! It is so unfair!

Ah yes...the age thing..i just roll with it as best as I can. You and I are SO opposite yet so much alike! As you struggle SO MUCH with the real world stuff and constantly say you are a working in progress....SO are those of us with weight issues..It is NO harder or NO easier than the other..It is ALL real world stuff.....just depends on which side your standing.

I really enjoyed this post, Jody. I think one of the important take aways from this is that life is definitely a balancing act. I'm like you... I'm great with my fitness but my social life suffers when my fitness excels. It's amazing how it all catches up with us in one way or another - but that is why different people have different strengths and weaknesses Makes life interesting!
