Weight Loss & Reader Comments

Thursday January 13, 2011

Last week I wrote a lot about weight loss and consistency/choices/change, honesty & reality checks. I got some great comments & want to share with you.

1. Geosomin  wrote this to my Getting Real post: It's so true. There are a few ladies I work with who keep incessantly bothering me about how I've lost weight and toned up and they hate hearing that I had to work for it. They want a simple answer they can do too. They figure I'm starving myself or on some crazy diet. It drives me bonkers. It took me 30 odd years to figure out what I need to do and am willing to do to look like I do now, but now that I know, I can figure out what I'm willing to do and not do and then just do it consistently. And be happy with the results.

From Jody: This blogger is beyond busy but she still finds time to work out & eat healthy. As we all know, people want the quick fix or the easy way out or a pill or whatever it is BESIDES PUT IN THE HARD WORK & PUT BETTER FOOD AND/OR LESS FOOD IN THEIR MOUTH! Yes, you can gain weight on healthy food if you eat too much!

Karen wrote this: I loved that post of Carla's. And this one I think we all have to ask ourselves what we really want that we are willing to work for, not what we really want but are not willing to work for. And what we are willing to give up. Not just food, but balancing things in life as we choose our priorities.

From Jody: The Carla reference (here & in my post) was to MizFit's post on what is your willingness to do what it takes vs. the willpower word. If it is that important to you & you really really want to lose that weight, you will find a way to start moving & eat better! I read a story about a lady that spent 5 years taking off her weight. She kept at it & had a lot to lose!

Cammy wrote this: My big reality check was giving up the idea of being "lean and mean". When I reached my current weight range, friends began to mention that I was looking "haggard" and "tired". Not the look I was going for. It's what I saw in the mirror, too, so I accepted that this much slimmer and healthier, but still somewhat soft physique was where I wanted to live. And THIS is what I'll continue to work for. Gratefully.

From Jody: I love Cammy for writing this! You know, as we get leaner, our face leans out & yes, we MAY tend to look not as young or things show more. AND, Cammy acknowledged that she is working very hard (and she is!) & so happy with her new healthy & slimmer self. BUT she also knows that for her, really pushing it to be lean & mean is not for her. A great place to be to know what you want & to be happy with it!

Me, as I have written before, I am willing to push beyond a point to be the way I am but that is me. Yes, I do give up more than others to look this way but that is my choice & maybe one day I will let myself be "less lean". But for now, it is worth it for me. We all find our way!

Lori wrote this: I will probably forever weigh my peanut butter because I *know* that I will "forget" how to eyeball a tablespoon. Just because you don't count it doesn't mean you didn't eat it!

From Jody: This says it all, doesn't it! THX LORI!

So, it all comes down to the choices you make for yourself & what you are willing to do to get to that goal of yours. Maybe along the way you find that being lean & mean is more than you are willing to put in but being lighter & healthier is a good thing like Cammy. OR you may feel that really pushing it to be lean & mean is worth it for you like me. Maybe it is in between there somewhere.

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT - NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, IT IS STILL GOING TO INVOLVE SOME HARD WORK & SACRIFICE TO GET THERE. Willingness, willpower or whatever you want to call it, it takes hard work. Put together a program that works for you but also gets the job done!

OK, let's get moving! Are ya moving yet?
