Bites & Nibbles Count! Blog Help Needed
So Marsial over at Eyes of the Sun wrote this the other day:
"but my few extra calories here and there is beginning to add up, so I have to nip it now. I've been grabbing a few pecans each time I walk through the kitchen. I've had popcorn a few times in the afternoon. And of course, the bagels. Way too many bagels over the course of the past month. I stopped eating them 4 days ago, but I must say that I miss them. I can see all too clearly where these little extra bits of food are leading because I've been down that path year after year. I didn't want to post this. I wanted to hide. And you all know what I mean."
The she wrote this in another post:
By the way, I have been counting calories for the past couple of days, and can see that I must have been eating much more than I thought I was.
I have bolded a couple sentences in the first one & underlined the second one because those that read me all the time may have read the many posts I have written on this including THIS ONE and THIS ONE. Plus all my posts last week about how people really underestimate how much they eat OR just really don't want to know so pretend they are eating right rather than doing the HARD work of really finding out the truth. Check out my posts last week if you have not read them.
I commented to Marsial on the first one by saying this:
Marsial, I like this. You know I have been posting all week about reality checks & honesty with ourselves & choices we make. I have written several posts in the past about these little bites we take here or there & may repost that as well because little bites add up to big calories just like baby steps in exercise & healthy eating add up to big long term results. It works both ways.
I am a weigher so I understand that & many don't like it.. but for me, that & also knowing how a certain pair of pants fit are my keys to knowing how the bod is doing. Running from it is not gonna help.
And yes, it sucks not to be able to eat what we want & it sucks that we have to work HARD at losing weight BUT the choice to have to lose weight was made by the person that put that food in their mouth to make them overweight to begin with plus the lack of movement to get where they are today - needing to lose weight. Ya got to suck it up & do the hard work AND THE PAY OFF IS GREAT! ![]()
BTW, I just read a post by Bobbie of AFG after I wrote this & had to reference it because she did the math as Dr. J always says & like I mentioned in this post of mine & her own post. She buckled down, did the math & is counting those calories so she knows exactly what is going on. Love ya Bobbie!
I am sure many are saying - Jody is being mean this year! What happened! I hope you don't think that. Just trying to "slap" a reality check to anyone reading out there that it takes friggin HARD work & that pretending you don't know why you are not losing weight does not help the problem. Consistency, choices, change, honesty, reality checks... all part of my posts last week.
You know, there was a lady in Los Angeles know as the "health nazi" or something like that because she told it like it was to her clients & they loved her for it. She was still working in her 80's.
Being Jewish, I don't like that nazi stuff but I may take on the persona but with a different name... tough love type of thing. Have a name I should use? What do you guys think? I will mix it up with my motivational stuff too! Maybe I can get some people to pay me for being "tough love to them"!!! Let me know your thoughts!
ALSO: I have had a few readers tell me that they can't get in to comment on my blog even though they are not blocked on my end. I have also been told that my posts are now getting to their RRS feeds way later than they used to. If you are having either of these probs or any other probs, please let me know in the comments or email me at jody@truth2beingfit.com. THANKS!

nah your not being mean lol your being a "muse" we all need a reality check once in awhile thanks!

Jody, great post! Thanks so much for referencing my blog. I want you and all of your followers to know that I am continuing to count my calories and complete more than 10,000 steps each day. I will post an update sometime this week.
Thank you so much for talking about tough love -- I want to hear more of that from my fellow bloggers. I need to be held to account, and I like that you are willing to step up to the plate and get after me. Therefore, here is my suggestion for your name:
THE WHIPMASTER
I've already been secretly calling you that anyway -- you are the best!
By the way, I was able to easily enter your blog today from the FRONT door! Thanks again for your highlighting my blog.

Marsial.. I love your post & the frank honesty! Calorie counting may not work for all BUT it will tell you why you are not losing weight if you keep saying that to yourself!
I think if we candy coat too much when a blogger keeps falling back, it gives them the out... another post on this next week!

Jody,
You are completely right with this. It IS a lot of work. It's isn't easy to count calories and calculate how much we are eating all of the time. However, when I do it, I am more successful and I always lose when I stay within my calorie range. Simple as that.
Last night you should have see my husband and I. We were a great team. We were making those low fat enchaladas from my blog but changing up the recipe and recalculating the ENTIRE dish's calorie content then dividing it by the number of servings so we could calculate our calorie intake for dinner. Yes, it took some time and it was a pain, but it was kind of eye-opening in a "holy cow" kind of way if you aren't aware of what you are consuming!
Thanks for the mention today AND for keeping it real!

Bobbie, you are living proof that it makes a difference.. along with Marsial & others. I understand it is not for all but if that statement about why I jus don't understand why I am not losing weight keeps coming up.. well... like you said! Yes, a pain but worth it!

I'm going with something along the lines or Masial: health drill sargent.
The drill sargent with the velvet whip!
(Just for some background, I had some employees call me the boss with the velvet whip; I told them that was absolutely the best compliment I had ever received!!)

Jody what an awesome article! This is my problem as of late! Nibble here and there and on carbohydrates nonetheless!
I have to be honest with myself if I am going to keep this weight off. Its time to get back to basics.
I think you'd be a great Motivator!

You are the Health Dean... that may not fit though because in school we did not want to go to the Dean's office. here, a trip to your office/blog is a welcome invitation. Will have to give that more thought.
Calories! The amazing Roy over at http://contemplativefitness.wordpress.com/
he shared this on my blog last week, "Some how, some way, "calories" have become the enemy. In truth, calories are our friends. The reality is though, that too many friends spoil the party. Just invite the ones closest to you

You took the words right out of my head! I was reading along with your response to Marsial and thinking about all the great feedback you have given me and my thoughts immediately went to imagining you as a coach! I have told you before, I very much appreciate your honesty. And you never come across as mean! Your caring and support always shine through
