Consistency, Choices, Change
The 3 C's - Consistency, Choices and Change. These 3 things should be part of your weight loss & get healthy plan. I have written about them endlessly but since we are starting a new year & this tends to bring in new readers, I will write about them once again. Actually, many out there need some pushing too since Halloween to New Years tends to get people not doing the CONSISTENCY thing! You know who you are!
LET ME FIRST START BY SAYING THAT PART OF THE 3 C's BUT NOT A C - PATIENCE!!! I can't say this enough! It will take time to lose this weight. It always comes off slower that putting it on so get real & have the patience cause IT IS HARD WORK BUT WORTH IT!
1. CONSISTENCY: I really can't emphasize this enough! Without it, it is going to be a long hard battle uphill that may never be won. I rarely say "my way or the highway" but in this case, I am going to say it. You have to have consistency for long term weight loss AND maintenance! I have been working out for over 25 years & in the gym all that time. I have seen people come & go & come back again. You know what the one consistent thing is about the people that come & go but don't stick to a regular program - YES, they come back heavier than before most of the times. Consistency is key!
2. CHOICES: We have many roads we can follow in life for health, career, family and more. It is the CHOICES we make that define us. We can choose to be healthier & fitter & happier even if it is hard & it may take some sacrifice - YES, sacrifice! I am not saying it will be easy or that all choices we make will work BUT the the key is to START MAKING THOSE CHOICES TO BE BETTER & HEALTHIER.
Some of the choices may need to be modified or re-evaluated. Sure, do that BUT don't give up just because it did not work the first time. MOVE ON & choose a path that may work better for you! No giving up!
3. CHANGE: I hear so often from people that the reason they don't stick with their weight loss or get fit program is that it is too boring. Come on! Do you know how many different ways there are to move & exercise & burn off some calories. LOTS!!!
I love the gym & the weights & I do cardio too but I still change up my gym workout constantly. In fact, I never do the same workout 2 days in a row or 2 weeks in a row.
If the gym is not your thing, plenty you can do at home or outside or take classes. Find what you like & works for you. No excuses. There is something that will work for you!
I can't leave without pointing out that FOOD IS AT LEAST 75% OF THIS WEIGHT LOSS & MAINTENANCE EQUATION. The choices you make about the food you eat & the consistency of eating well a majority of the time is so very important. I did not say you can't enjoy some of your fav foods but again, you are going to have to get real. You just can't eat anything you want as much as you want & lose weight. It is a fact!
Hit me up - what do you think & feel free to add on. I have plenty more to say in posts to come but we can start it here. Questions? Feel free to ask me!

I couldn't add on to that if I tried, perhaps if it were later than 5AM.

Change is often given insufficient attention I believe by those of us trying to go from a wreck of health to something better. Oh we adopt a form of change up front in accepting the challenge of a diet/exercise plan. But then as we progress and a plateau is hit, or worse we regress in some way, we don't take a long enough moment to think it through and change yet again. Change is not a 'one-and-done' technique. It needs to attention, it wants to be massaged, otherwise it wont care for you or it just may up and leave you. And then likely you will abandon it as well.

Change is not a 'one-and-done' technique.
That is the key right there Patrick. I can't tell you how many times I have changed things along the way.. you got to keep at it!

Hard exercise helps me stay on course with eating well. I feel I worked too hard to blow it on junk.

Once again you are right on! I use to think I had to be perfect and if I didn't achieve perfection I threw in the towel and thought I had failed.
Once I gave up perfection things kind of fell into place for me. If I don't get in all of the exercise days every week that I strive for , I am not a failure it all balances out over time. I don't have to eat perfectly healthy 100% of the time. If I eat right and exercise 80- 90% of the time I am doing great and I reap the benefits. Consistently working at it and improving the quality of my food and work outs gets results that I can live with.

Jody, I was extremely consistent with overeating during the trifecta of holidays.
But in all seriousness, this is an awesome article. No matter what miracle programs or weight loss plans or whatever is being touted right now, it truly all comes down to something as simple in principle (and in its own way, tough to do) as this.

Jeremy, funny guy! Yes, weight loss is simple in principle & how to do it BUT oh so HARD to do otherwise we would all be at the weight we want to be at.... it is hard work!

Food is such a critical component in the success in weight loss. I've lived it both ways and I'm hear to say YES, YES, YES this is a great post. As always, thanks Jody!
