Year in Review; Start NOW!

Thursday December 30, 2010

So, you been slacking off for a couple weeks OR maybe you have not even started your weight loss/get healthy resolution & are waiting for January 1st. Well, to that, you know I am going to say START NOW! Never like the present to start getting healthy!

Anyway, I wanted to share this link from ACE, American Council on Exercise, about a
12 week starter program. If you are new to exercise, this is a great start & you can do it at home! If you have slacked off, this will help your bod work back into it. If you have just maintained your normal program all the way thru the holidays, this can be used on days that maybe you can't do your normal workout OR if you just need a down time day. Check it out HERE. Lots of great exercises and again, you can do them at home!

Year in Review: I wanted to touch on this because there are so many great posts out right now about what the blogger has accomplished in 2010. Honestly, some amazing & inspirational stories! What people do & the goals they have done... GREAT!

Now saying that, I know there are those of us out there that can get down on ourselves because we have not come near doing half of what many of these people have done in 2010.

You know what I say: So what!

This might be that chance to say I can just never live up to what THOSE people do or I just can't do it so I am not going to try. PLEASE DON'T DO THAT!

For some of us, just being us & maybe not wanting to do all those things is part of our life. Just because others do it, this does not mean that we have to be all goal setting & gung ho.

KNOW THYSELF. If you are OK just hanging out vs. bungee jumping, that is OK. If you want to bungee jump & never want to sit still, that is OK.

We are not all out to set the world on fire. Some of us just want to go gently into the night.

Be unapologetically yourself!

Do you sometimes get down on yourself for not accomplishing as much as others? Thoughts?

Sometimes I get down on myself because I compare my exercises to others..."its not good enough" or "your lame" come to mind. My husband told me last night I can't compare where I am at in my running to him, I need to focus on how far I've come. I know he's right, just sometimes hard to pat myself on the back.

I suffer from the comparison thing. I see so many bloggers who run faster than I do, lift heavier, weigh less, just do more than I do and periodically I feel like I don't do enough.

I do know that there are people that view me in that same way, though, so it is just a big circle LOL!

Lori, I suffer from this too. They read all these books & do all these races & challenging things... but I have to realize that at certain points in my life, I did that & maybe right now, I am just not ready for more of that.... but not to say I won't go for it again!

What a great post. And yes, sometimes I do get down on myself for not losing the weight by now. But trying to put all that behind me as I work my tail off now.

Also have trouble comparing myself with others. She runs faster, she loses weight more quickly, she gets to travel, blah blah blah. It's not positive thinking. Slowly getting over it though.

Kelly, again, I understand. I have always been one to compare myself to others & it can be a bad thing if we tend to see ourselves n the lesser end.... I am still working ion it after all these years! Thx for commenting!

Oooh, I keep forgetting about that inchworm exercise! I have an 'emergency at home workout' with a lot of those exercises in them (plus lunges, pushups, and kitchen-chair tri-dips), and I'll have to add inchworm into it. Thanks for the link!

Nope, comparisons are a certain path to failure for me, so I work really hard at not doing them...or to quickly STOP comparing when my baser self sticks her head up. We are all beautifully unique, and that's something to celebrate, not mourn.

So, this just showed up in my reader tonight, 8:30pm, but I can see from other comments the post was up this morning. Hmmm.

Mostly I don't worry about anyone else. But I do sometimes get inspired and wonder if I could do things that others do - like run a 5K.

Thanks for the links...yes, sometimes I get down on myself but not as often as I use to... It has been an incredibly changing year and this is the first year I am happy to say I am just continuing what I already started.
