Cookies; Back Injury Update

Monday December 27, 2010

Hope all of you had a wonderful holiday celebration!!!!

I keep forgetting to show you these YUMMY molasses spice cookies I found out & about. They come from 2 different places but both taste equally delish but in a different way. Check out the pic above! Love my cookie treats!

The darker one is from Paradise Bakery. The lighter one is from Cinnamon Productions  & man does that place have some fantastic goodies! They make these molasses spice cookies ALL YEAR ROUND! So glad I found them!!!! Now I don't have to wait till November/December every year!

OK, update on the back. If you missed it previously, I first wrote about my back injury HERE and the first update HERE. So, I am much better but not the 100% I had hoped for when it first happened. It was obviously much worse than I first thought & not the same as that one from years ago when I was fine within 4-5 days.

I have been working the rehab & stretching every day & as I get better, the more aggressive I get with the rehab. I added in the foam roller a few days in after I was a bit better. The first few days, it was just too bad. I could not even do a pelvic tilt the first couple days. The foam roller has really helped me improve tremendously.. or that is my opinion. The more I use it & work it, the better I seem to get. Yes, it is sore afterwards BUT it is working sore not injury sore. The next day. I am always better. So, lesson for this & weight loss - IT IS HARD WORK. YES IT HURTS. YES IT CAN BE A "PAIN"... BUT IT IS ALL WORTH IT IN THE END! I think about how worse it could have been if I was not in such good shape to begin with.

The good news: Each day I can do more. I am still going to the gym & doing cardio & weights per my normal schedule & can do more every time. I RAN LAST THURSDAY in the gym on the treadmill!!!! First time since this happened & I even got up to a fast clip in the 8-8.5 range which I was doing before. I start in the 6.8 -7 range & usually work up to 8-8.8. Did not try my HIIT - for me that goes up to 9.3 -9.5. So, happy about the 8-8.5. Of course I am working the back too & can again do my back extensions on the back extension bench in the gym. Also doing my stiff legged deadlifts & good mornings. Very exciting! Everything is improving & rehab work works the butt big time too! YES! Also, I got my outside run in yesterday! No rain & I gave it a try & YES! I did cut off about 10 minutes since I was running on pavement vs. the treadmill & wanted to be careful of the back. Of course I stretched & rehabbed after!

Not so good news: Still going to take longer to heal than I thought. I might be near the 70% mark. Sitting too long is still problematic but standing & lying are fine & I can do my ab/core work so a good thing.

Not sure on my posts this week. Since sitting too long is not great still, I may share a couple articles I have found interesting mixed in with a couple posts on my own. Whatever it is, hope you enjoy if you are reading.

HOW WAS YOUR HOLIDAY? ANY FUN STORIES TO SHARE?

I will write about mine later this week cause my get together with the crazy kids is tonight. Will let you know about my Xmas day with my youngest stepdaughter/hubby too.

Keep progressing, Jody. Movement really does help. I think too many people just stop moving at all when they hurt their backs, which makes recovery much slower. Once the real initial inflammation pain is gone, movements like you have been doing are the best way to help heal.

Sorry to hear you are hurting still! I'm about 90-95% back. Oddly enough, a weekend in Vegas and I might be better/not worse, than when I left. I did a fair amount of walking, and oddly enough, the pillow at the hotel must've been better than my own-I had two great nights of sleep, and last night was the first night since 11/28 without any painkillers to help me through the night. Vegas was a blast. I highly recommend a Vegas Xmas to everyone at least once in their life.
