Giving Back-The Gift that Keeps Giving

Wednesday December 15, 2010

First order of business - another birthday! Happy birthday Jerry!!! I would love to call you an old guy but being my age, I can't! We are so proud of what you are doing in changing careers & this one is such a helping career! Hope you can find a little time between work & school to enjoy!

I got this email with all these ways we can make a difference & also give back so I thought I would share with you. I have not checked out every one of these so you may want to read more & decide if this is a cause you want to give to & really, a cool gift too.

Change.org came out with their 2010 Holiday Gift guide. These are gifts "that advance social change". As they wrote: "While the holidays can be a time of excessive consumption, they can equally be a time to use our resources to do a lot of good."

For some gift ideas for positive change, you can see the full list HERE. Here is just a few to peak your interest:

1. For the Educator in Education: DonorsChoose.org where teachers across the country can ask for classroom supplies & gadgets that they can't afford on their own and your loved ones can choose a specific project to fund.

This was actually one of Oprah's favorite things on her fav things shows a few weeks ago. ALSO, Groupon has a deal going on right now that allows you to boost your charitable donation by 60% if you do so by the 16th. Check that out HERE.

2. For the Environmentalist in Environment: Want a junk free mailbox? Precylce will remove a name from most junk mailing lists for $10... reducing junk mail can save some 93.5 million trees each year.

For the  Animal Lover in ANIMALS: Consider adopting a virtual pet from Defenders of Wildlife or National Wildlife Federation, which offer virtual adoptions of wildlife with kits including photos, certificates, stuffed animals & more. Neat for a pet or animal loving friend.

OR, check out The Animal Rescue Site.

OR, contribute to your local animal shelter.

For the FOODIE in SUSTAINABLE FOOD: Sign up for a Community Agriculture (CSA) membership. This entitles members to a regular delivery or pick-up of fresh, seasonal produce from a farm near them - a healthy choice for consumers & for the planet. To find a CSA near you or your loved one, use LocalHarvests online CSA locator. My sis does this!

Again, for the complete list, check it out HERE

I thought this was a cool thing to share at this time of year. Options for different kinds of gifts that help a good cause!

There are many ways to give like the above or giving to your own or your gift receiver's favorite cause or charity. Paying it forward... there are cancer causes like my Sarcoma cause & Children's Hospitals & so many ways to give... especially if you know what the receiver loves to give back too!

Want to share???
