My Weekend Excitement
I rarely write about my weekend escapades because I write my posts ahead of time due to my extreme slowness at writing.. plus my weekends can be pretty boring.. which is a good thing sometimes! BUT, some things happened this weekend that I thought I would share. This past weekend we had beautiful weather in southern CA. Sorry to you snow people! It was in the low to mid 70's Saturday & Sunday got into the middle 80's! Not to worry, we are expecting cold weather for us come the end of the week with some rain.. I know, you are all crying for us!
Anyway, we headed to Fashion Island in Newport Beach to see the tree there. Every year they have an amazing one & this year was no different. Here is a pic I got off the web. The tree is a 90-foot-tall & 24-foot-wide tree. It is decorated with 10,000 Christmas lights and 12,000 ornaments. AMAZING! Everyone was around it taking pics for the holiday! Flickr has a bunch of pics if you want to check out more.
So, I also saved a toddler!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, I did not actually "save her" BUT maybe if some pervert had got his/her hands on her. We were sitting in the food court at Fashion Island & all of a sudden a little girl about 2 comes walking by crying her eyes out. She was headed into the Barnes & Noble Bookstore right near my hubby & I and not one person did anything while this poor baby girl roamed around crying. I assume this because she made it to me from "across a crowded room". I took one look & got up & asked her where her mommy was & held out my arms. She stopped crying & came to me & of course I roamed around looking for the mom. Apparently the mom was with a couple other mothers & lots of kids. One look away & the little girl had crossed the food court & was on her way into the bookstore, crying all the way. As I crossed the food court looking for the mom, I saw a lady looking around & of course it was her mom. She was so relieved! SOOOOOOO, during this crazy season, just keep your eyes out for your own kids & maybe a few that wandered away. Be careful! It only take s a second for a kid to wander off.
Something a bit scary: Saw a car accident. A car plowed into the back of another car at a red light. I did not have direct view but looked like the car that hit the other car was not paying attention... who knows, maybe looking at a text or using the cell.... who knows... BUT was not paying attention to the fact that the light was turning RED. So again, in these crazy times, I know lots going on.. BUT BE SAFE! Please do not use the cell phone while driving.. do not text while driving & pat attention. Again, just a second looking down & that is an accident waiting to happen. Way to easy to get frazzled this time of year....
Something cute & funny: I saw an older couple in their 80's walking around.. well, sort of. The lady was "shuffling" but had a very bad hunched back. The husband was in a bit better shape. I thought it was cute & they were arm & arm enjoying.... Well, as we left, we saw the lady standing out by the curb waiting to be picked up. Wait for it..... Her husband drove up in a fairly new red Porsche - that sporty 2 seater!!!! TOO FUNNY! The poor lady had a time getting in that thing! I guess the moral - don't judge a book by it's cover!
Something exciting: My hubby & his roller hockey team won their division!!! 1st place!!! My hubby will be 58 this month & he plays with a lot of younger guys & holds his own! VERY PROUD of him!
Fitness stuff: Had a great Sunday morn run & clear as a bell & beautiful sunrise!!!
Hope you all had a great weekend. Please feel free to share some of your fun in the comments!

Yay for being a hero! You are right...you never know what could have happen if someone else found her.
There was a car accident where I live Friday. Semi vs mini van. 1 death 2 survivors. It made me think a little.

That toddler and mom are very lucky that it was you who scooped her up! I am the same about writing posts... do them ahead, edit or let them gel, rarely post one that was written the day ahead.

Definitely not a boring weekend! Does it scare you a little how easily the little girl came to you when you put your arms out? You did that mom a big favor. You're right though, a child can disappear in the few seconds you look away. Better to leave them with a trusted friend or family member when shopping at this time of year.

Well, that will teach you to stay in the house!
I have long been a believer in the responsible adult rule, where any responsible adult can share in looking out for children. I know the fashions of the day say different, but I don't like how we are raising our children not to trust.
At least they didn't have a Harley! Maybe next year

In Memphis last week, a driver plowed into a house after first mowing down a jogger. Driver was texting.
I'm glad *someone* had warmer weekend weather.

Wow, that was an exciting weekend. Congrats to hubby and I adore the story of the old couple. That's how I see me and my hubby as we age. Except I hope to be in a little better shape.

Exciting post! Thanks for looking out for the little one -- People are afraid to help these days. Things can happen so quickly. Locally, a woman let her daughter look in the toy section of a store while she was on the next isle. A man grabbed the girl and raped her in the store's bathroom. Luckily, he was caught. To all of us parents/care-givers: DON'T BE COMPLACENT.

Wow you have had a crazy weekend! That is so crazy about the little girl! Not too long ago we were at the mall and this little boy was climbing over the rail at the mall.. I was just about to grab him when his mom came!
And that couple sounds darling! There's an elderly couple that work out at my gym and are just darling together.
