Sculpting Our Bodies-It is about YOU

Dr. J offers his irreverent, slightly irrelevant, but possibly useful opinions on health and fitness. A Florida surgeon and fitness freak with a black belt in karate, he runs 50 miles a week and flies a Cherokee Arrow 200.
Rodin-Rabbit
I think many of us often say & have been heard saying... "I do everything" - I eat right, I exercise, I drink my water BUT I just don't lose any weight. I have heard it often, I did say it at one point in my life & I know that many of you can relate.
So, how many of you are willing to admit that this was the process of fooling or lying to ourselves. We all know that if we just ate less OR ate better foods & moved more rather than talk too much at the gym... well, we would lose weight. Even Bobbie admitted that she was sabotaging herself about how she could not get lower than a certain weight.. until she came out & admitted that the buffet lunch twice a week was not helping & she cut that out. Voila, she broke the weight barrier & is still losing along with introducing a great line of fitness wear!
We all can do it.. we can shape our bods to the best we can if we put the hard work in. It is all about how much you want it, how important it is to you & how motivated you are to cut out certain foods & add in more movement to get there.
In that regard, WE ALL CAN SCULPT OUR OWN BODIES.. they do not "just happen". Please to enjoy DR. J below with a very REAL post!
Being your own sculptor:
What a wonderful opportunity we are all given. We have these bodies!
This body is the only one you are getting this time around. It's
yours to love or hate. It's yours to destroy or create. I think
it's very common for people to believe that their body just happens
to them over time, that we don't really have much control over this
process.
You just do what you want and there it is. It’s not unusual for this
method to end with you one day looking at yourself and asking “How did
this happen?” It's probably happened to everyone at one time or
another. I think as we go from our teens into adulthood changes often
catch us unawares. We persist with our teenage habits into the world of
less time to do the things we want to do and more time spent on things
we have to do. Then with getting older, metabolic and hormonal changes
can add further to our frustrations.
Rodin is one of my favorite sculptors. He could create masterpieces in
many media such as stone, clay, plaster and bronze. Perhaps we can
think of ourselves as sculptors. Maybe we are not as great as Rodin,
but we have something he didn't have.
We have ourselves. We have the wonderful opportunity of being the
artist of our own unique sculpture! Don't let this life pass with
years of what you could have been, or should have done. I've heard it
said
that our biggest regrets are not of what we have done, but rather what
we didn't do. Of course we can't go back and re-work our past, but
we can begin today and start sculpting our future.
Yes, it's a slow process, so what? From the view of health and
fitness, start walking and make small healthy changes in your
lifestyle. It doesn't matter how fast you are moving in the
beginning, only that you are moving forward, and keep moving forward!
Small steps, with time, cover great distances.
Perhaps you do better with a clear goal in mind. In that case,
establish your goal and move toward it. Personally, I do better with
establishing a direction, and the goals become more apparent to me as I
move toward them. Everyone has to find what works best for them.
Momentum is everything. Start sculpting!
Become that self made man or self woven women!
From Jody: So, are you sculpting your body or are you still making excuses for why you are not achieving those goals? Honestly, I have been there... I have lied to myself too. I had a time in my life where I put back on a few pounds & was blabbing about how I just did not understand.. BUT, I really knew that I was just taking too many bites of the wrong foods too many times in a day & week. I bet it you are honest with yourself right now, you can say that too if you are one on the "I don't understand" bandwagon.
I have said often & Dr. J says above, yes, it is a hard & slow process to do it right BUT "It doesn't matter how fast you are moving in the beginning, only that you are moving forward, and keep moving forward! Small steps, with time, cover great distances.
What are you sculpting today, not tomorrow, TODAY???

I love the idea, and am a big believer in "establishing direction" versus choosing a goal. When one steers toward a single star, straight on till morning, achieving goals just seems to happen.

it has been a big realization for me lately that I have to WRITE my own lifestory.

We can absolutely sculpt the bodies and lives we want if we are willing to put in the effort it takes to see results. It's important to remember that even the great artists of our world have had their share of mistakes and have had to reassess their work and start fresh.

Gosh, I love Dr. J. He is so right. And I love that he gave me a shoutout!
He was right. When I was at the peak of my plateau, I was going to the Chinese Buffet. Who was I fooling when I thought I could eat there because they had vegetables and still lose? Only myself.

Love this! Esp. because Dr. J knows of which he speaks, both with the sculpting (I have myself a Dr. J original!) and with the bodies. So true!

Excuses are cheap and easy to find. They have become apart of our current day world of instant gratification e.g. drive thru meals and microwave slop-in-a-box. It has become too easy for us to be dishonest with ourselves and take the easy way through today while we promise tounge-in-cheek to do better tomorrow. And when tomorrow comes and we don't, a new excuse is right there to be had. Dr. J's post is a great lesson that the choice is ours; we can choose to let lives excuses live our lives for us or we can live a life we want.

LOVE>>LOVE>>LOVE>>> So many years I have just taken my body for granted! Isnt that the core of body image...the image we want versus the image we have...WE ALL fall into that category at one time or another! Thank you Jody and Dr. J
