How Much Chocolate?????
I had written notes from something I watched.. typical me.. did not write the source but here they are:1. Americans eat 100 pounds of chocolate each SECOND
2. Americans eat 100 acres of pizza a day
3. Americans eat enough pasta per year to CIRCLE THE EQUATOR 9 TIMES
Take each item one at a time & if you portion control theses foods to a healthy amount - chocolate in small doses (like a small square of it per day & higher % of Cacao) is fine; a piece or 2 of thin crust pizza is not going to kill you but if you eat the whole thing OR eat it all the time well...; pasta made in a healthier way & eaten in a portion size, not enough for 5 people, is fine....
It is when we let the portions and the control of these foods & others get out of hand, we have, let us just say: NASA, I think we got a problem - I am paraphrasing!
People are people & they do tend to let the portions get away from them OR if you are IE, not paying attention & go into mindless eating mode.. not a good thing!
We are headed into a minefield of holidays & celebrations & parties so we need to really be aware, plan ahead AND watch our portions and/or the IE so we don't lose control (easy to do). I think we all know how we can fool ourselves into thinking we ate less than we really did, exercised more than we really did or NOT count all those little extra bites of food & sips of drinks that we take during the day.
Just saying, let's get ahead of this. Keep my head game post from yesterday in mind....
Here is a graphic of some things that we may have to watch out for this holiday season: Frighteningly Fattening Fall Foods Slideshow
Here is also a calculator to help you figure out how many calories you are burning for different exercises: Exercise Calculator. Don't forget, it takes a lot of exercise to burn off 1 pound which amounts to 3500 calories. Keep that eating under control... it is at least 75% of the weight loss equation!
Any of 1-3 above one of your - "I just can't stop eating that"? Anything I said above sort of resemble you???

after years and years and years of seeing those serving sizes they still seem so ....tiny.

Miz & Lori.. I agree, some of the portions seem tiny & yes, after the super sizes we see today, man, even more so. Me, it is good to know this because it does not mean I eat 1 portion size, depending on what I am eating... sometimes I may eat 3 portion sizes of veggies at one time.... or 2 portions of another food as long as it all fits into my overall food program for me.
I think it is is when it gets away from people that causes the issues.. when there is just no conception of a portion size & what one is eating in relation to that & the calories that go along with it.

That is not that much chocolate. There are 300m of us. I came up with 0.5oz/person/day. Now since I don't eat even that much, somebody is eating my chocolate.

I am not a huge chocolate fan either... I know others that are not so people are making up for us! I guess Charlotte is one of them!

It's me Ewa - I'm pretty sure I'm eating your serving of chocolate.
I made my own coconut milk fudge last night - am hoping it's cooled enough to eat this morning

I have some 100% baking cocoa almost every day. All of the benefits, none of the pleasure. Maybe that's my problem?

Dr. J, I have the 100% cocoa in the house too..... but I am not one that craves the real thing so this works for me for the benefits.. thank goodness I am not a chocolate craver!

There is no one food in particular that I "can't seem to stop eating" I love chocolate and pizza, not don't want it all the time. Pasta I could live without.
My biggest issues are portion control (having more than 1 portion!), not counting all those little bites throughout the day, and overestimating the amount of exercise I really did.
The holidays are tough and I find the root vegetables, stuffing and hearty stews and other comfort food on a cold autumn day tough to resist!! Fooling myself into thinking that those carbs, because not concentrated sweets, won't screw with my blood sugar, sets me up for the sugar crash and then wanting the sweets. vicious vicious cycle!
It is at least 75% of the equation, evidenced by the fact that I've worked with a trainer for 4 years a very small weight loss to show for it!
Grabbing that bull by the horns and beating it into submission!
I'm really enjoying your articles! Thanks!

Julie.. thx for you comment. So many in the same place that you are & I thank you for your comment on your trainer but little weight loss.
I used to train & I had this issue with some clients. They would say to me, "why aren't I losing weight"... when I asked about the food, well, there is was..... we can work out forever but if we don't get the food in line with that, it just ain't gonna happen. That is why I put the exercise calculator there & also in a past post, talked about how JAckie Warner made one of her clients work off 2 Oreo cookies.. it took a lot of exercise to work off those 2 cookies! Got to change the eating.
Thx again!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm with Miz - sometimes serving sizes seem so tiny.
I will measure out a tbsp of PB, then live the knife with the extra tsp on it and act like those calories don't count LOL!

Lori, I so get that PB thing!

The joke among my friends and family, sadly, is that we always have to order two pizzas; mine, and one for everyone else. Thus I tend to hide on pizza night -- go for a run, get out, hide.
I really appreciate the graphics Jody. That is GREAT context.

Roy, I am sure you are not alone on that pizzaa thing!

Makes me wonder how many acres of pizza I have eaten over the years. Too many to want to recall I am sure. Goood references to help us not eat by the acreage.

Patrick, you are too funny! Now you are getting exercise PR's & NSVs instead of pizza PR's!
