It is a Head Game - Weight Loss, Life, Health & Whatever Else
Below, these words from Karma over at Inperspire's Blog. This is her It is all in your head post:
I read a short but SWEET article in Shape Magazine last month about boosting your chances of success…at anything. I was intrigued when I read that title. “Sign me up for that,” I thought. The message was simple and while not entirely new presented a twist that I had not thought of or tried before. You know what? It’s been working.
When facing an intimidating task, a simple switch of words — thinking of a job as difficult instead of impossible — can make all the difference. “The brain does what we tell it to,” says Srinivasan Pillay, M.D., the author of Life Unlocked. “If you send it the message that whatever you’re attempting can’t be done, it will give up without trying. But if you just admit that it’s going to be tough, your brain will begin to engage in the task and come up with a plan.” While changing your mindset doesn’t guarantee success, it does ensure you’ll get one step closer. I used this method while out running the other day and my inability to do what I like to call “sustainable running” vanished (for awhile). I was able to keep running with a simple switch of words from “This is too hard, I am not going to be able to do this,” to “this part will be challenging, but I CAN do it.” I did. By Foreigner:

From Jody:
I have written a few posts about this changing up the thought process. One in particular that I liked was this one: Fun with Words to Help with Weight Loss. I also liked this one: The Power of the Mind.
My response to the Inperspire post was this: Maybe that is why I am successful at my exercise & health goals. I do admit to myself that it is tough but it is worth it. I don’t fool myself & accept that. It is a challenge but worth it!
See, this is something that I have lived with for a long time. I lost my weight a long time ago. I knew then as I know now that I gain weight easily, that it is hard for me to take it off & I have to work harder than some others to not only keep the weight off but stay fit & healthy. A fact of life so I live with it. It ain't fair as they say but it is what it is!
I knew then as I know now that I would have to work hard to keep the weight off & and work hard to be fit & heathy always. There was no question about that and I DID NOT want to go back to being fat.
We are all made different and it is a fact of life that it is easier for some than others.
Yes, it WILL get harder as you get older for at least 98% of you so best to get at it now before you get to 40ish, my age or older.
Yes, life is unfair at times BUT if we can change our mind than we can change our lives. How we change that mindset & the words in our heads may all be unique to each of us, but let's do it!
Me, as I said above, I accepted it a long time ago that it was going to be hard, going to be tough, but it was worth it. Yes, I still say it sucks BUT than my mind says IT IS WORTH IT!
As I have gotten older, it definitely has gotten harder & I expect it may get even more so but I still say IT IS WORTH IT!
What is the alternative.. to be unfit, unhealthy, have diabetes & obesity related diseases, die too young .. like I spoke about in my What Does It Take post.
YOUR THOUGHTS.... What do you say to yourself to keep you pushing ahead to stay healthy?
PS: For those that missed my post yesterday, please give it a read & tweet. It is an important cause & message. Thank you!
Head games, it's you and me baby
Head games, and I can't take it anymore
Head games, I don't wanna play the...
Head games

You know what I'm sayin', still we keep on playin'

I have played with words and semantics a lot on my "journey." In the moment, it can be very powerful. I just need to remember to change my thinking
When I first started blogging I saw a lot of versions of: Being fat is hard. Dieting is hard. Maintaining is hard. Pick your hard.

I guess I say it's better than the alternative! It feels good to be an athlete, to be able to move and enjoy everything that fitness gives me, so I want to maintain it the best I can.

Gotta Do It!!
That is what I say. Like it or not, I gotta. Because I gotta live another 296 years, or, as many as possible. Life is too fun to cut short by your own hand/mouth.

I agree with your comment about changing your mindset to a more positive thought to help you do what you need to do. I find this helpful with many aspects throughout the day.

I tend to have more success with the thought, "Let's see how far I can get," or "I wonder how many reps of this I can do." I don't go into it thinking I'll do 60 minutes or 10 reps at X pounds. I just start and go as far as I can. After that, I have a baseline from which to push.

Yes, Yes, Yes! Love this post.I am working on one myself about the power of our mind and our thoughts!
I ask myself if what I am doing is helping me achieve my goals for good health. I also think about how I will feel after I finish what ever activity I am engaged in.

I couldn't agree with you more. This is what they mean by "attitude is everything" and I wish I would've opened my heart to it earlier. Two years ago I read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and he talked about not saying "we can't afford it" but instead saying "how CAN we afford it?" and I think it's the same mentality!

"What do you say to yourself to keep you pushing ahead to stay healthy?"
There are really so many things, but honestly, the accountability factor with the blog is huge for me.
