Healthy Protein Meal Recipes with Apples

TGIF Friday September 3, 2010

We all know that apples are great for us! For about 81 calories & 4 grams of fiber, a nutritional bonus! Read all about them & more about their protective benefits at Worlds Healthiest Foods here. And with fall coming, I always think of apples! Apples are one of the items on the "buy organic" list so if you can, do buy organic apples.

Well, I found two great recipes from Oxygen Womens Fitness Magazine. Both are a powerhouse of nutrients with protein & healthy fiber along with being very versatile.. meaning you can change them up to suit your taste!

Warning first: I was short of time for this post so I made pics again instead of typing out the whole thing.. Sorry! I am a VERY SLOW typist! Younger Jody fact: In high school when I went way back when, there was actually an elective for typing with A REAL TYPEWRITER!!!! Anybody out there too young to not know what a typewriter is??? Anyway, I was so bad! I lucked out. The teacher let us grade ourselves. I gave myself a B since I did not want to ruin my GPA but I really deserved a D as I typed about 15 words per minute with 14 mistakes! I did not deserve an F cause I did try!!!

Anyway, here ya go & I think you are going to like these!!!

Chicken Apple Burger (from their special Glutes Summer 2010 issue): For me, I would use extra lean ground chicken to bring down the total fat & I typically use non fat Greek yogurt. You can also use extra lean ground turkey & change up the spices to suit your taste! As for the hamburger buns, you can eliminate them, go with just a half or use the bread or pita of your choice.

Curried Tuna & Apple Pita (from their September 2010 issue): Once again, same rules apply. Change up the seasoning to suit your taste. Use the pita or not. Use half a piece of your fave healthy bread or even a sandwich if you prefer that. Just remember that the nutritional data will change up or down depending on your changes.

Hope you enjoyed both these recipes from
Oxygen Womens Fitness. To me, both are winners & so fun to make your own! You can make them portable too by placing the meat mixture & yogurt mixture in their own to go containers & wrap up the bread portion to suit your wants & needs! Might be a great choice for a Labor Day meal!!!

Anyone want to share a yummy recipe with or without apples???

Apples, I've been eating a good deal of them for the past few months. Fruit in general, good stuff. Better than the candy bars I used to call snacks.

Apples in hot recipes huh, thinking here and I can't think of any that I have tried. Plenty of cold ones though. That burger looks good, a slice of apple on a burger, that I wouldnt have thought of but am willing to try.

Okay old lady - I also took typing in HS. Now the kids get a little exposure to "keyboarding" but no one cares which fingers they use. My kids are fast! I am grateful to those old classes as I sit here and type away without looking and not worried that the letters have worn off my keys. BTW - My grandmother gave me an electric typewriter for a HS graduation gift and in that day and age it was very high tech and quite a luxury!

P.S. Apples with peanut butter. Simple and delicious.

I never thought about using apples like this! As a kid, I thought apples should be red and grapes green. Then I found good ole Granny Smith and that changed my world! When I did psychiatry in med school they actually had a Granny Smith apple tree on the hospital grounds and I didn't need to get them at a store for a couple of months
