Homemade Pickle Recipe!

Picture credit Happy Friday the 13th! I am not actually superstitious about this day.. are you?????
So, my sister Bethe sent me this homemade pickle recipe that her hubby Bob made for an event. They went over really well & looking at how easy the recipe is & basically how easy it would be to modify to your own taste too, I had to share!!! I love pickles! There is sugar in there & I have no idea if you can substitute that for those that would not want to use sugar. If you have suggestions, comment away!
Cucumber Recipe:
1. Slice cucumbers approx. 1/4" thick and fill a container, any container with cucumbers.
2. Add a couple of slices of onion for flavor.
3. The ratio is 1 to 1 1/2 C sugar to 1 C vinegar, 1 T salt, 1 t. celery and mustard seed.
4. Add sugar, salt celery seed and mustard seed to the cucumbers.
5. Heat white vinegar almost until boiling--but not boiling.
6. Pour vinegar over cucumbers.
7. Add boiling water to cover cucumbers if needed (no more water than 1/2 the vinegar already used. If more is needed, more of the vinegar/sugar mixture is required).
8. Let cool, then refrigerate and marinate for several hours.
Next Step: ENJOY!!
I also ran into a short article on these Senor Juan's Hot & Spicy Pickles. Steve, this is for you! Here is a link to more about them.
.

And last, remember my post that talked about all the benefits of kale? Well, check out Tami's post all about KALE & how to cook it! Lots of you had questions on that AND she makes a smoothie with it too! Check out the link to that smoothie at the end Tami's post.
Anybody else have a pickle or cucumber recipe they want to share? How about kale?

are you ready for weird? odd?

One of the few online recipes I can say I will try. I have never made them before but I eat them all the time Pickles are an EXCELLENT appetite suppressant and they are practically free from a relative/calorie perspective.
Whenever a new weight-loss client starts with me, I always include pickles on the list of "hunger breakers"
Nice Jody!

I am not superstitious, not one bit. Luck, is made, not received. That said, never eating a pickle in ones life has to be some kind of unlucky. Miz, please eat one, just one, and let us know if you feel luckier for having done so.

Don't know if they are still available but there used to be a dill pickle manufacturer named "Daily." When I was about 6 or 7, my sister convinced me that that meant that I was supposed to eat a dill pickle daily. I did, too, for about 20 years.

The problem with pickles, for me, is all the darn salt leads to water retention. Sigh. My oldest son loves pickles and used to fill a plate of them for a snack.
