Habits We Need to Break.. Or Not...
Picture So yesterday I posted about negative self talk. A biggie for many of us! I think some of you out there may have mastered the mine field around this but it is a hard one.
So, perfect timing that a few days after I wrote that post, this question came up from my ongoing series of great questions. Once again, I will share some of the answers. For me, my mind went on overload as I have a lot of habits I would like to break OR at least change into something a bit more positive. There were lots of answers on negative self talk, procrastination, nail biting & smoking. So.......................................... Check out more answers at the link below.
What Habit Would You Like to Break?
1. I would like to celebrate what I have accomplished versus concentrate on what I haven't
2. After 20 years I finally quick chewing on my finger nails. Now I chew on my cuticles. I wish I could just keep my fingers out of my mouth!
3. I am forever adding to and interrupting during another person's story. My habit that needs to be broken is to sit back and enjoy a friends story and not make it my own.
4. Being mean-spirited at times.
5. My worst habit is being my own worst enemy and critic. I would like to be gentle with myself as I am with all others. Funny but its effortless to be kind to everyone else but me. I would love to be at peace and stop putting myself down as my first response to every situation.
6. I would love to stop smoking. Have tried the patch, chantix, hypnosis etc. Nothing seems to work. It is really an awful habit and one of the toughest to break. Help!!!
7. Procrastination! I tend to put off until tomorrow what I don't want to do today!
8. Piles! Piles! Piles! I am a chronic paper-piler. I need to find a better system to get my mail, important documents, etc. organized. I've tried stowing them away, but then I forget about them...leading to uncashed checks, lost receipts, pain.
9. recreational eating. You know, even when I'm not hungry, I want to eat - ANYTHING.
10. I tend to worry about things. I need to work on creative ways to relax, take care of myself and not worry so much.
11. being tied to my crackberry
12. I am as good at editing my life as I am in editing my closet. I don't have any habits I want to break. I love me, habits and all.
I really loved that last one & I resemble the first one!
So, what do you have to add to the discussion????? Which habit of yours is most getting in the way of you losing weight & living that healthy lifestyle?
OR what is just a habit you want to break OR you actually like about yourself?
Before I end this, for those that love your Dr. J fix, the CalorieLab site is having major issues. If you have been trying to read Dr. J & can't get to him, he is hoping that the CalorieLab group will fix this soon. Hang in there! Dr. J will be "visiting me" next week so you have that to look forward to!!!

My favorite new (this year) habit, which I hope to never break, so reading the blogs of like-minded people, who remind me that after all these years, fitness is more important than ever.
The habit I should, but will probably never break, is the habit of interrupting people in conversation because I KNOW what I have to say is so much more important than what they have to say.
My "fitness" habits...? They are right where they should be

I also love #12, "I am as good at editing my life as I am in editing my closet. I don't have any habits I want to break. I love me, habits and all."
But, over the years I have worked hard, and succeeded, at breaking a couple of awful habits: (1) I had to wean the people around me off of the idea that I could fix all of their problems. I had become used to being the "fixer" and I was exhausted -- and those I "fixed" never grew from the experiences because their involvement was passive. (2)I used to be an acute type-A personality. Starting about 15 years ago, I used to recite a little mantra when I got out of bed each day...."I will not give anyone a hard time today" (repeat many times). I haven't scored 100% at this, but I went from close to 0% to close to 99%. Although I sometimes feel like a wuss, the health benefits to this were huge. Maybe I'll write about it on my blog.

I have so many bad habits. But I am going to focus on my biggest stumbling block right now - eating when I am not hungry, snacking. Ugh.
