What's Your Motivation? More Happy Bdays!

Jack Sh*t, Gettin Fit started an amazing series if you have not seen it yet & I am sure most of you have been over his way! He started it this way: Taking Notes. He simply asked people to send in a note card & pic of why they want to lose weight or be more healthy. He asked people to send it to him & thus started his series of W.I.D.T.H - Why I Do This Here.

You have to go back to that first Taking Notes post of his. Then go thru all his posts since then to see the many pictures & reasons why people do this life long journey to lose weight, get fit, be healthy, feel better, get stronger, do more and so on.
Many of the pictures & reasons touched my heart, others made me laugh, others made me think, others made me reread them. It is just an AMAZING series he has compiled along with the people that have joined in on this.. along with me & my pic above. A slice of life from many many of the blogging community out there. Much to be learned from it too!
Not too long ago, Karen from Fitness: A Journey Not a Destination asked me & a few other bloggers why we continued to exercise, eat healthy & do what we do at the age we are right now. My post kind of gave a background of how my reasons have changed over time. At Karen's place, I said this and also this:
In my 50’s, although still young, I hate to say but end of life does start to enter the mind. In my 50’s, I eat well and exercise to make sure I stay strong, healthy and fit for the long term. So that I can be active & take care of myself as long as possible. We also know that exercising & eating well can ward of certain diseases, cancers, diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis and more! Not to be a downer but when my mom passed away from cancer just 1 week short of my 50th birthday, I was taking care of her right up to the end. At almost 50 years old, I was helping her up out of chairs & her bed, helping her to the bathroom, lifting wheel chairs in & out of cars. I know, a downer, BUT my wellness allowed me to do this for her & I know there are plenty of 30 & 40 years olds that may not have been able to do this.
Not only do I want to be able to help others, if need be, but I want to HELP MYSELF stay strong as long as possible. I feel that I am not only a good role model for older people but for younger adults too.. AND my 7 grandchildren. As one of my granddaughters said to her mom one day.. I want to be strong like Nana. That is what I am talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes the reasons behind this journey get intertwined. Yes, for me, the above is true but I also want to look decent as long as possible, fight off the aging process if possible, be able to be active & do things & play with my grandkids as long as possible, not be a burden on others among many other things.
I am thinking we all need to start this way, with this video, Jessica's "Daily Affirmation". I mean it. You have to watch this!!!! I first saw it over at Fitness and Spice. Just think if we all started out feeling this way! I bet MizFit's Tornado could do a video like this!
OK, back to Jack Sh*t. Read each & every one of those reasons on the JS blog. Take the time to go back to the beginning & work through them all. Between the pictures & the words, I guaranty you that you will find at least one reason to motivate you to either start a get healthy & fit program, continue on the one you are on already or to maintain and/or improve on what you have accomplished to date.
I MEAN IT! These will touch your heart & mind in more ways than I can write here. Please check it out!
A HUGE THANK YOU to Jack Sh*t Gettin Fit for this amazing ongoing series!
So, what motivates you? Has it changed over time? Have you been following Jack’s series & if yes, your thoughts. Anyone out there start their young life like Jessica in the YouTube video link above?
AND... another family bday! Happy birthday to my hubby's brother Scott!! Hope you manage to have fun amid the craziness!

I have not yet made time for Jack's blog, but will try hard since your request was so sincere.
I sort of eluded to this in Karen's blog which I was honored to be included in, but will go a step further tonight: I am, and have been motivated by many things through the years; my looks, my functionality, my ability to play hard and well with others. But what motivates me most of all, is the fear dying having not lived a complete life. Since such a large part of life is being physical, daily action is a huge priority for me. I say all the time that sitting still is simulating death, and that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but it is the meme that keeps me going.
Jody, thank you for providing such an honest product!!!

What better reason than being able to help your Mom is there? My mom is in good health, but does have osteoporosis. I imagine someday she too will need help. I want to be there for her too.
How sweet that your grandchild sees you as a role model for health!

I have been enjoying seeing Jack's W.I.D.T.H. posts too. It is so important for those on this journey to find out what really, really motivates them.

It would have to be for my kids...and yes, I would hate to be a burden on anyone in my older years. Thanks for making me think, yet again

I love all the different reasons for motivation! Motivation for me comes from a variety of things- I want to be healthy, strong, and prevent disease. It also comes from seeing progress in myself..i want to keep going!

April, you are sure doing a good job!

My initial motivation was simply to be healthier and stronger. While that's still a big motivator, I simply like the way I feel now when I'm doing the right things. I want to continue to experience that, so I keep trying new things.

Cammy, you are certainly trying new things!

This was a great post. Your story about your mom was moving. I am sorry for your loss. I just recently was taking care of my mom for three weeks after she had a complete knee replacement. I am glad that I was in good shape to be able to move her, bathe her and do all that needed to be done.
You are so right that in your 50's (I will soon be 51) you start thinking more about your long term health and how you want to live the rest of your life. I decided after years and years of yo yo dieting I had to concentrate on being the best me I can be. Healthy from the inside out. That is my motivation. I saw some of the photos that Jack posted and they are inspirational. I will check out the video you linked to.
You are to be admired for your healthy body, mind and spirit. You inspire me!

Tami, so great that you are looking for health from the inside out! To be honest, I am still working on that inside. That is the toughest one for me! The gym & exercise & eating well are easy compared to that for me! Keep up the great work!

I love this post and Jack's as well. You are so wise in steering us all in the direction of health and fitness. Not just so we look good on the outside, but so we stay motivated and complete on the inside.

I really love your reasons for leading an active and healthy lifestyle. I am turning 40 this year, and I am already thinking about how I want to spend the next 40 years of my life. Definitely as fit as possible!
