More Gym Rants & Some HELP too!

One of my Inperspire towels!

You all probably recall some of my gym rant posts - what I see there that drives me crazier than I already am & things that just bug me. I think about my crazy workout time & if people are going to be in there then, why not just do it right.. meaning proper form, stop talking & texting while you are on the cardio machine since you are slowing down to a crawl & still calling that a workout!!!

So some recent things I have actually seen in the gym, both the good and the bad! I will not bore you with my previous rants like not putting weights back & more!!!!

THE BAD:

1. I see a lady come in every so often. She gets on one of those seated abdominal machines, puts it on the lightest weight & proceeds to push down on the lever bar for about 15 minutes straight. First, she is not using her abs to do the work. Secondly, put on a bit more resistance & actually work the muscle. Personally I don't use those machines & like to do my core/ab work utilizing my own power... but that is just me.

BTW, after she finishes the "ab work", she heads over to the cable machine & once again, puts it on the lightest weight & does cable bicep curls for about 15 minutes.

She does the above 2 exercises for 2-3 times, gets on the Elliptical for a bit & that is her workout. Sorry, but I could find a better way to use my time!

2. You guys know this one & it best NOT BE YOU!!!! I have been working out with a lady for years - meaning she comes in when I am there. She does the same thing over & over again in the SAME ORDER .. every workout and on top of that, poor form. Unfortunately she is a lady that thinks she knows what she is doing so trying to help & suggest other things does not work with her. She watches me sometimes yet never tries to change her form or exercises.

In fact, over the years, she has injured herself a few times & it is always the "exercises fault". First it was the running, than it was the Elliptical & then too much yoga. Never occurred to her that she was doing anything wrong. PLEASE DO NOT BE THIS LADY!

3. I also see a guy come in the gym. He does pretty much the same exercises in the same order like the lady above but he is a "rush thru them" guy. He is moving so fast & wanting to I guess, get out, that his form is all wrong on just about everything!

If you are limited to time, take the time to do the exercises with proper form, even less of them. You will get more & better results with proper form even if you are doing less!

THE GOOD:

1. All the ones that come in and use proper form & mix it up! I LOVE THAT! In fact, I have been seeing the younger guys doing alot of complex multi joint moves along with typical hard core weight training. Very cool that they mix it up! YES, I do see lots of the younger EGO guys but I am seeing more that have let the ego go & I like that!

2. I saw these moves on The Biggest Loser & tried them out & loved them!!!

First one:Get on the treadmill but do not turn it on. You will have to hold onto the treadmill though because you are going to use your own power & legs/butt to move that bely. I have done it flat & on the incline & man, love the feel of this & really works the legs, butt and cardio if you get yourself moving. Try it out!!!!

Second Move:
If you have access to a free motion cable machine, set the handles of the machine to the width of either a wide or close lat pulldown. Set the weight, grab the handles & do alternating reverse cable lunges with either type of lat pulldown at the same time. So, as you step into your reverse lunge, execute the wide or close lat pulldown with PROPER form. I used the wide & close grip & really liked this move. A nice addition to mix it up.

3. YOU ARE WORTH IT, like the Inperspire towel says!

OK, there ya have it. Now, what are your most recent gym rants? We want to know!!!! Also, if you try out that treadmill or free motion cable machine move, let me know what you think.
