Time Off & Away to Renew! Unplug!

Do you say YES to you & NO to over-scheduling? We all know that the word NO is important to us in terms of setting limits to doing too much. No is a good thing too when we stop ourselves from overindulging mindlessly.
YES, is a good word when we unplug & give ourselves much needed "ME TIME" like my reunion with high school friends this past weekend & the beginning of this week (see another pic below and the fun pic from last Sunday). OR, like MizFit in one of her recent posts.

PS: No, this is NOT my house! I wish & I am not that clean!
Cammy, over at Tippy Toe Diet had this cool post the other day, For Your Consideration: A Day of Rest. Check it out. Part of it was about this & quoted directly from Cammy's site:
Enter: The Sabbath Manifesto. Have you heard of this movement? It was created by a group of Jewish artists belonging to a group called "Reboot", which is attempting to adapt Jewish culture and traditions to modern life. The Manifesto itself is a series of 10 principles designed help us "unwind, unplug, relax, reflect, get outdoors, get with loved ones and, if we’re lucky, get some booty, too. The ten principles are to be observed one day per week, from sunset to sunset."
What I like about this project is that it's so all-inclusive. You don't have to be Jewish (or even particularly religious, for that matter) to benefit from a day spent unplugged and focused on self, family, and friends. You can adapt these principles to your current Sabbath day, or if you're not religious, choose any day to practice them.
You can also interpret the principles in ways that have meaning to you. For example, principle #1, Avoid Technology. For some, there are religious or cultural requirements for what technologies they can or can't use, but for many of us, this principle will have different meanings based on our needs and desires. If you want it to mean "avoid technology except to connect with long distance relatives or friends", that's fine. If I want to go completely off the grid, that's fine, too. (Though not likely to ever happen, to be honest.)
The purpose of a sabbath day (in addition to worship, for some) is to make time for relaxation, reflection, and restoration. By making it a structured part of our week, we ensure that we don't get so caught up in attending to our physical needs and desires--and those of others--that we lose ourselves along the way. If we're going to be truly healthy and fit, we need all three pillars standing tall: body, mind, and soul.
The Sabbath Manifesto's 10 principles are:
-
01. Avoid technology.
-
02. Connect with loved ones.
-
03. Nurture your health.
-
04. Get outside.
-
05. Avoid commerce.
-
06. Light candles.
-
07. Drink wine.
-
08. Eat bread.
-
09. Find silence.
-
10. Give back.
I definitely follow the eat bread every day! I DO! I love my healthy bread!!! Seriously, quite an interesting philosophy & something to think about! Do you take time away to renew? Do you unplug? Are you brave enough to do what MizFit is doing?
We all have to find what is right for us but undoubtedly, I bet most of us need to say NO to too much craziness & YES to more "ME" time.
Hey, this is Earth Day. Wouldn't this be a great way to unplug & celebrate Earth Day? Get out & enjoy the day & smell the roses!!! Also check out this post from Sensei Talks.
Thoughts???
Thx Cammy & MizFit for inspiring this post!

Having a day off sounds like a wonderful idea. When I was a kid, Sundays were such days. Stores would be closed (isn't that something?), people would head out of the city to nature. I know, different times and different country but I miss those days of rest.
But "no technology"? Wait a second, I can't do that...

you, mizfit and cami are all SO right, but damn if i'm not hooked to my laptop by an umbilical cord. it's all pressure i put on myself. i feel like if i don't get my work/blogging done today, i will have that much more to do the next day, so i feel i can't take a break. i need someone to clobber me over the head and drag me away from my laptop. can you come over and do that?

Agree with Dr. J; a little bit of it every day.
I am obsessed with the parallels between faith and fitness, and I write frequently about that connection. Part of faith is the disconnect of ego... for the benefit of ego. This notion should be daily, in thought at least, if not in action.
Excellent thoughts here!!

Sian,, I like that! When I was with my girlfriends, our last eve, we had a candlelight dinner & it was the daughter of our hostess that thought of it.. very cool! Yes, I remember the days of cards & board games!

I've been unplugged for about a week and a half now (due mostly to travel). It's been great. I've felt more connected to my family.
A sabbath is a great idea in any form. Sorry if I get this quote mixed up, but the sabbath was made for man (people), man was not made for the sabbath. In other words, we need the break...it's there for us to use.
I bet I missed many of your great postings. I like the picture!
