Mental Muscle - Jack Sh*t Talks FITness

I know that many of my readers know of Jack Sh*t, Gettin Fit . He combines humor & truth all in a great blog! Jack has lost 90 pounds!! He has played the lose & gain & lose & gain game but this time, he is losing it for good! Well, "mentally losing it", let Jack talk to you about that.
I asked Jack to head over here so that I can spread his word & boy does he have some great words to spread! Check it out:
I would make a lousy personal trainer.
Seriously, a few sessions with me would set you back months, I’m afraid. I’ve got this freaky short attention span and a somewhat skewed sense of humor, so I’d make you do the exercises all wrong or make up entirely new ones to try out on you.
For instance, I’m got something I’d try out on you called a Reverse Push-Up; you lie on your back and then you… well, I haven’t worked out all the details yet.
That’s not to say that I don’t know a thing or two about getting fit. I named my own blog Jack Sh*t, Gettin’ Fit because I knew it was about more than just losing weight. To my credit, I realized from the very beginning that it was about finding a healthy lifestyle I could live with and, well, start living with it.
I’ve lost over 90 lbs. over the past year, and my action plan has been a simple one: eat less, eat a little healthier, exercise more. I’m pretty much done with all the pound-dropping that I plan to do, and now my focus is on taking my fitness to the next level.
That’s why I adore Jody and what she’s doing over here. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of really useful information she packs in her posts. I can’t tell you how many of them I’ve bookmarked for future reference.
I’m not an expert at telling you how to get where you’re going. Like I said at the start, that’s not my gig. I don’t care how you get there, in fact; I just want you to get there. So low-carb, low-fat, double-cardio… whatever works for you works for me.
There’s one thing that I do believe pretty strongly though: you gotta get strong upstairs before you tackle the challenges that await you below. You need to wrap your mighty brain around what you need to do or I fear it’ll be just another failed attempt, another start-and-stop, another frustrating flop.
With that in mind, here’s some keep-in-mind points that are applicable no matter what plan you’re following…
Stare down your fear. In this life, there is no shortage of things to be afraid of. It’s time to quit being scared that you don’t have what it takes to do this for yourself, time to stop being afraid of failure and take a big leap of faith. Believing you can do it is the first step in actually doing it. Believe.
Keep pushing yourself. It’s easy to find the determination to get started on this journey, but locating that second wind once the going gets tough… not always the easiest thing, is it? Dig down deep and find that reservoir of inner strength to keep you moving forward, keep you surging toward your goals. It will never get any easier than it is today. Keep fighting!
Live your life. You don’t have to quit having fun to get healthy, but you may need to change your definition. I used to think it was fun to eat like a pig, but that good feeling was over in a heartbeat and the pity party lasted for a long time after. True fun is moving your body, being active, getting off the sidelines and being an active participant in your life.
This is you and you alone. Sometimes friends and family will help you and sometimes they will hinder you. Co-workers will tempt you and neighbors will seemingly try to thwart you. But this isn’t about them… it’s all on you. That may not be fair, but that’s often just the way it is. The good news is that you’re stronger than you’ve ever given yourself credit for. Now’s the time to show it.
I haven’t told you anything new, anything that you don’t already know. However, I have high hopes for you. Why? Because you’re here, because you care, because you’re trying to do better and chasing down answers wherever you can find them.
I wish you all the luck in the world on this journey.
Those last 4 points, that says it!!!!! And believe me, his last point, OH SO TRUE! How many of you have had friends or family try to sabotage you? I bet a huge percentage of you. You have to ignore the nay sayers & believe in yourself & that you can do this. Face the fear, push yourself, GIVE YOURSELF MORE CREDIT! All of us out here in blog land know you CAN DO THIS!!!
Pass on your thoughts & feelings about JS, his post & anything else... have you been sabotaged & how did you survive it?

My father shoots me down all the time....I'm used to it.

Not good! As long as you can get past it & not let it harm your own thoughts about you being a good person. ... sorry to hear that!

this journey is you and you alone.
I love that as I see it as a good thing, too.
we have friends and partners and cheerleaders along the proverbial way but it is our choice. our success. all we need exists already inside us.

So true Miz!

Great stuff here.
I had the same thought as Miz. (Pity I don't have her biceps.) Realizing that WE have the power to make the changes we want in our lives can actually be a huge source of energy. It's all in how we look at it.

You are a sure example of this Cammy!

I love what Jack said about living your life. We can't get so caught up with trying to lose weight that we lose sight of everything else around us. We only have this one life, we need to live it now.

I love Jack! and I get the most out of it when he is a little tamer. It hits me harder than the laughter. The Live your Life is an important one for me to remember! All of them are great but that is the reminder for today.

Anytime I visit my family in Poland I fight a losing battle. Newer generation has learned that one does not force feed their guests but my aunts and uncles are not of that generation. Polish hospitality demands that a guest is well fed, and I mean WELL. So no matter how politely I refuse, how much I lie about doctor orders I am made to eat one more thing, try one more dish again and again. They all praise me for losing weight and ask me to take seconds in the next sentence. I guess I am lucky Poland is so far away.

Ewa, I think many of us have this battle. I am Jewish & food is the main event!
