NOW BEFORE YOU MEN & YOUNGER GALS TURN OFF OR CLICK ELSEWHERE, let me tell you that this is a book for all! It is a huge help to women going thru this BUT even more so, men should read this to understand what we go thru. Younger women should read this not only to be prepared for what is coming but to help & understand women in your life going thru this. Also, both men & younger women will gain a much clearer & better understanding of this change in life for women. My hope is that you will read this book & not only understand BUT SUPPORT her thru this. If you are a man or younger lady, enter my GIVEAWAY too. Not only will you enjoy it but you will learn & then you can pass it on to women in your life. I have been thru many of the symptoms E wrote about so I have first hand experience.
I have to say this is one of the best & funniest books I have ever read on this subject! YES, it is! Not only did E take a tough subject & make it readable BUT she made it fun AND packed it with tons of important information! If you are a woman & felt alone about "the change", than fear no more! This is your answer!!! SHMIRSHKY: THINK INSIDE THE BOX A SMALL BOOK WITH A BIG STORY - Reaching out is IN. Suffering in silence is Out. - From Jody - DON'T SUFFER IN SILENCE Got a vagina? Know someone who does? Chances are you have a wife, girlfriend, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, daughter, friend, mentor, coworker, or boss who has one. Whether you’re a forty-five-year-old woman in perimenopause or an eighteen-year-old guy who thinks his mom is in need of an exorcism, Shmirshky is for you. Shmirshky is the first menopause book of its kind. Unlike other books that are dry and mired in confusing medical terms, Shmirshky is an intimate, humorous read—smart, fact-filled, and full of love. Shmirshky is open and honest at a time when many women want to keep their feelings hidden. For some, the PM&M experience can be overwhelming and frightening. “You may feel like an alien swooped down, took over your body, and jumbled up your mind and personality—not to mention your hips, your boobs, and your waist,” E says. Shmirshky had its beginnings as a simple journal. E’s initial writings were intended as a gift to her daughter. That journal morphed into a small book with a big story. Edited by her twenty-seven-year-old son (who now knows more about PM&M than he ever imagined!), Shmirshky affords readers an honest, personal connection that further squashes the stigma of PM&M. Don’t hide your shmirshky under a bush! Shmirshky empowers women to take charge. E helps her readers learn how to interpret the symptoms of PM&M, research and interview doctors, understand the necessary tests, and reach out to loved ones for support. Treating the symptoms of PM&M is not a one-size-fits-all situation. As E says, "Too bad they can't administer hormone therapy through a pair of heels." You can visit shmirshky.com for more info & to buy the book. Readers can also connect, comment, and share their own unique experiences as well as stay in touch with the shmirshky movement.
If you win one of my 2 GIVEAWAYS or decide to buy it, read from page one or you will miss out! Do not skip the beginning like most do because it will explain why it comes wrapped the way it does which had me scratching my head when I first received it!
A bit of the press release below:
“Shmirshky” is a term you won’t find in any other menopause book. It comes from E’s unique, often hilarious vernacular: she calls the vagina (and anyone who has one) a shmirshky (pronounced shmersh-key). “Vagina is such an awkward medical term,” she says.
Shmirshky is not your mother’s menopause book. “In fact, chances are she never had one. If you think menopause is a shitty experience, then Shmirshky is your pooper-scooper.”
Actually, I had so many parts of this book marked to share in this review that if I did, this post would be 10 pages long! I mean it .. as hard as this subject is, I laughed out loud & got crucial info at the same time!!!!! I MEAN IT! FUNNY, fun to read & informative!

I'd love to get my hands on this book. My mom has been very vocal with me and my sisters about getting information before we need it. In her generation women suffered in silence. She has urged us to get all the information we can and to make educated choices about hormone replacement therapy. I'd love to get a little more information before making that choice.

I definitely just did a double take at the image! HAha!
My mom has been going through menopause for the past 3 years and it just doesn't get any easier. The hot flashes, the hormonals, the weight gain...she is so frustrated and at her wits end, this book might help her cope through the rest of it! And it could help me to read it and be prepared for the future-never hurts to be educated!

As I myself, am going through peri-menopause (and what exactly is that anyway???) am interested in this book. I'll find myself getting overheated, and will engage in the yoga cooling breathe, to cool down the body....which helps tremendously!
Any humor and helping in this area helps!! Gaileee

I would love to read this book if only to confirm that my mood swings are not a sign of me going totally mad.
I am noticing though that while I am still pre-M my symptoms have become more bearable since I started exercising and eating well. My night sweats (more like night baths in my bed) are gone, no hot flashes, no tiredness for half a day every day.
I like to think that my healthier lifestyle had something to do with the fact I am feeling better despite the dreaded M.
Now if I could only stop crying at the smallest thing.

This book sounds really great Jody. I remember my mom going through the change and it wasn't pretty. I hope I will be more gracious than she.
