Monday at the Gym; LA Boxing Winner; Sunday Update

Monday, January 25, 2010

So, I just wanted to update a few of you on my Sunday workout since many of you take Sunday off. First, check out that pic above. That is similar to what I saw early Sunday during my jog. How beautiful is that!!! A result of the crazy storm weather we had here in "sunny" southern CA all last week. It rained every single day AND it stormed, not just rained with thunder, lightening, hail & funnel spouts/tornados in some areas not to far from me!!! Crazy weather here! Anyway, what a glorious view for the jog! It was a chilly 40 degrees but oh so beautiful! AND, for those of you that wonder if I take days off.. YES! Saturday is my full day off from all formal exercise. Friday, I may take off OR if not, it is just some stretching & light abs/core. My hard days are Sunday through Thursday. I learned the hard way to take days off! I used to work out 7 days a week. Thank you to all that commented yesterday. I did not have time to respond to you. Sorry!

So, Monday is a ALL WEIGHT DAY for me. No cardio. I LOVE THIS WORKOUT DAY! For many out there, they love the cardio. Me, not so much even though I do quite a bit of it. I love the weights so I love this Monday workout when it is all about weights!

I work every body part with the exception of either chest or back. Just depends but many times it is chest that I leave until Tuesday. This Monday, I will be doing chest though & doing only cardio & back on Tuesday although I may throw in some extra push-ups too if I don't have time to do them on Monday (I am writing this post Sunday so I don't yet know what will happen!). I love my push-ups so I don't want to miss out on those!

So on Monday, I work legs/inner & outer thighs/butt, biceps, triceps, shoulders, either back or chest and abs/core. I do finish out with some stretching too. I work my legs pretty hard this day & also do a second day on Thursday. In addition, my cardio workouts on the other days of the week work the legs in a totally different way! Actually, I work all my body parts pretty hard on Monday. Since I do no cardio, I have plenty of energy for the weights!! And, really, even if I do cardio, I am still so excited to get to my weights because I love doing them that I am pretty intense no matter what. Yes, I do cardio & weights on the same day Tuesday-Thursday & I do my cardio first. It just works best for me. You do what feels right for you.

I must say that my workouts are very different from many just because I have been at this so long & what I do seems to work for me. It might not work for many & I have changed it many times thru the years! In fact, my training now is probably overtraining for many of you out there. I will put more detail to it another time but just wanted to give you some idea of what I do on Monday.

I also wanted to give you a heads up for my Wednesday post. If you have ever said I can't lose weight or I can't do this or that exercise, READ MY WEDNESDAY POST! This story is going to amaze you!!!

OK, GIVEAWAY WINNER FOR THE 30 DAY TRIAL MEMBERSHIP TO LA BOXING IS: lbu.

Please email me your full name & email address to jody@truth2beingfit.com I will forward this your information on to the LA Boxing representative & they will contact you about setting up your 30 trial! How exciting!

Also, exciting news for me. The Lake Forest LA Boxing location I was going to offered me up another free 30 days!!!!!! So, you will be seeing more posts on my boxing & kickboxing when I start that up again. I have to wait a couple weeks due to some time issues in the next couple weeks. I am so excited!

So, do any of you do weights & cardio the same day or do you split it up? Do you think I am crazy! What type of workout feels best for you? We are all different so always fun to hear what others do!

I'm a cardio-before-weights-girl too! And for some reason, I get slack for that. If I have a work out buddy, they think I'm weird for doing it first, but it works the best AND feels the best for me..that's all that matters!

Really looking forward to reading more about your kickboxing/boxing experiences at LA Boxing!!

Amanda, I hear you. People don't understand that what works for them may not work for another. I love the weights so I can do them anytime. Cardio, not so much so I need to do that first & put my all into it cause with weights, I ALWAYS put my all into them before or after & always have enough energy for them. Cardio, I may slack if I wait!

All great news, Jody!! I was at my fitness center on Saturday. They had this new class, "Karate cardio." That's not the name, but it's close enough. It's an aerobic class that uses martial arts moves at a pretty fast pace. I didn't join the class, but used the heavy bag off to the side to practice on. Not traditional by any means, but I did have fun kicking and punching to Little Richard singing Tootie Fruity lol!

On weight days, I do about 15-20 minutes cardio as a warm-up, then lift, then try to add in something "fast" (relatively speaking, of course *G*) like mountain climbers or jumping jacks to boost my heart rate back up. Like you said, different things work for different folks.

It's so funny that you're blogging on this. I was thinking about hitting the treadmill for a little cardio before my weight training session tonight. I do it occassionaly, and it seems to get me pumped.

I'd much rather do weights too. I like arms best though!

Love the weights too Jody! I do it all; cardio days, running days, plyo days, and stretch days, but the weights.... you can take the boy of of weightroom, but....

Even after all these years I still keep up with Dave Draper's blog -- old bodybuilders are cool!
