Hey, Quickie Abs & Legs!
OK, the title was a tease... SORRY!
Also, don't forget you have until 6pm PST tonight to enter the NuNaturals Stevia Giveaway! Really, these products are great!!!!
I saw this bit on The Ellen Show a few days back about a machine for "3 minute legs" & have been wanting to write about it ever since. It was so funny! Then a news story came along that talked about the dreaded infomercials & they were rating some of the products on them. One of those products was 3 minute abs. So, I thought, a perfect time to talk about this .... If it is too good to be true, then it is NOT true 99.9% of the time!!!!
The news story on the infomercials & the Ab Circle Pro 3 minute abs said this: "Consumer Reports routinely tests infomercial products like the Ab Circle Pro. Panelists gave the $200 device a whirl. "Following the Ab Circle Pro's strict diet plan will definitely help you lose weight. But the three-minute exercise routine, not so much," said Consumer Reports' Alex Willen. It turns out the workout is about the same as going on a brisk three-minute walk."
For $199.75 you can get the Ab Circle ProWE ALL KNOW THAT YOU SURE AS HECK AIN'T GOING TO SEE ANYTHING IF YOU DON'T BURN OFF WHAT IS COVERING THOSE ABS!!!!! What you eat is at least 75% of the equation! I think we all can go on a brisk 3 minute walk & save ourselves $200! OR you can search on my site for abs/core /abdominal moves along with good ole healthy eating advice, eating LESS than what your body needs to maintain steady state if your goal is to lose. AND, I have plenty of older posts on workouts to keep you moving. Now, yes, I am still trying to categorize my older posts so they are not all under the categories but you can word search too.
OK, and then on The Ellen show, I saw the 3 Minute Legs (for $113.95) OR here where Ellen DeGeneres tries it out! CRAP, the maker of this product actually put a link to the show of Ellen doing this on her show & she was making fun of it!
Picture from their site in the link aboveAgain, I have plenty of great leg/butt exercises from past posts!!!! And for those that don't want to search, just think squats, lunges, step-ups, stiff legged dead lifts, hamstring curls and MORE!!!!
If you want just a few posts, here are some & there are plenty more. Heck, you can just do stair climbing & get some great results for the legs/butt AND core if you hold that bod tight as you go! Use stairs at your work, home or bleachers at a nearby park! A good cardio workout too if you keep it going!
Abs/Core/More
Some leg/glute moves & more
At Home Exercises
Also, want a basic 12 week HOME routine for beginners, check out this program from ACE, American Council on Exercise. For more advanced people, there are 5 moves you can do at home on an easy day to work the core & abdominals.
This is that time of year when people fall prey to the quick & easy solutions on TV and in infomercials. I have been at this for 25+ years & I can tell you that it takes hard work, persistence, patience, consistency and EATING RIGHT! There is really no magic pill for this! Yes, there is weight loss surgery BUT you still have to do the work after that surgery. You have to learn to eat right & move more. Find something you love & just do it! I am not saying that you have to work out for hours on end BUT you have to put some effort into this, stick with it & eat better! It is going to feel uncomfortable at times as you push & work yourself. This is reality!

I laugh that I was always waaay too cheap to fall for the QUICK FIXES.
I wanted em.
I obsessed over the infomercials.
I.TOO.FRUGAL.
now ellen? ahhh she knoweth not what is coming her way.
Ive started a full on assault to get my dancing booty on her show
wish me luck...

Carla, I tried to get on Ellen as well.. to no avail. Hope you have better luck than me! I was trying to appeal to the fact that we were the same age & challenged her to some push-ups!

Ha, sometimes when I'm working out in the wee hours of the morning I see all those infomercials and they just have to make me chuckle ... they sure now how to get people to want them though, despite the fact that I think we all know they're too good to be true!

Lesley, I work out at strange hours so I check the TV schedule & make sure I put on channels that have NO infomercials!

maybe they should put all these gadgets into a sci-fi exercise movie b/c that's what the thinking behind this crap is: O U T I N S P A C E

Bob, so true! Funny!

I always resisted the gadgets, but did fall prey to some of the diet packages like Richard Simmons over my obese years. Always a big waste of money.
That's probably why I see so many of those gadgets at yard sales for $2.00. Seriously - every week I see at least 5 or 6 workout gadgets. Every week!

Diane, that is so funny about the garage sales. I bet you see lots of exercise equipment there too!

Such a waste those things are! I always see the ab circle thing and am baffled! How the heck could that be beneficial for you!? Just swinging back and forth..haha! The only infomercial that really caught my eye was P90X, but I just can't seem to spend the money when I have a gym!

Amanda, I would like to do P90X too but can't afford it! I have heard pros & cons but I like to be pushed so it looks good to me!

I know!! The $$$ is the only thing holding me back!! ohh to be rich

Amanda, to have some extra money would be nice for sure!

Some of those gadgets look like they might be fun, but I'm smart enough to know that most of them only work if accompanied by a brisk walk or stop at the gym.

We did get sucked into the Total Gym once, which wasn't a total waste, but wasn't user friendly at all. We also had a boxing bag, which we loved, but had to exchange it at Play it Again Sports (btw, I LOVE that place) for some other stuff--hand weights, etc. Does anyone remember that commercial for some silly piece of equipment that you wrapped around yourself and it supposedly shake or vibrate someone into shape (or am I hallucinating again)? hahahaha

Bethe, a boxing bag! You gave that up!

I remember the shake/vibrate gadget! Ha,ha. My dad was unbelievably falling for that ab circle pro thing. I made a comment about how anyone could actually believe that works and he made a comment about my treadmill. Hello! Not even on the same wave length. You can actually get a workout with a treadmill!

Karyn, that is such a funny story! I hope you talked your Dad out of spending $200!

Luckily I never got suckered into these sorta things. Sometimes I'd come close, but ultimately my laziness won over. I was too lazy to even get something if it promised results in 3 minutes! LOL!
Thanks Jody for consistently reminding us how "simple" it is to be healthy. Note, I didn't say "easy", but simple. It really is just a matter of controlling your diet and being active. Why I couldn't have grasped that 15 years ago, I'll never know!

Josie, I guess this was one time being lazy helped you!
