Diet & Exercise Help; Beautiful Blogger Award

OK, I want to say a big thank you to Melanie over at GirlGetStrong for giving me this Beautiful Blogger Award pictures above. If you want to read her post & the other blogs that she gave this award to, click here. Per the "rules", I am to tell you seven things about me and send the award on to seven other beautiful bloggers. I just can't single out bloggers cause I love you all BUT here are 7 things about me:
1. I probably watch way more TV than you think I do. I record a lot & then watch with the hubby or by myself. I work out A LOT so I am not taking time away from my workouts to watch TV AND I even do extra core/abs & stretching while I am watching some things!
2. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR LOST TO START UP AGAIN & SEE HOW IT ENDS. This is the last season.
3. I am actually pretty shy but everyone thinks otherwise. I guess I put on a good show!
4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE lifting weights. OK, I know you already knew that but it is sooooooo me!
5. My hubby & I like to go out each weekend, have coffee (and me my weekend treat cookie) & just sit, read & people watch. I do not feel guilty about this!
6. I never wanted children myself but ended up marrying a man with 3 children who turned out FANTASTIC & have 7 of the cutest kids between the two oldest girls.
7. I love my healthy breads! I eat it plain & toasted except after the gym when I put my power PB on it! I can eat up to 3-4 pieces a day! I pan for it & they are all lower in calories with lower carbs than most & a good amount of fiber & protein.
Now,Diet & Exercise Help!
1. First Dr. Oz
I recorded a Dr. Oz show a bit back & have been wanting to share this info with you. Drs. Oz and Roizen are "sharing the 14-Day YOU Diet. Get started on changing your body from the inside out with this healthy and automated eating plan." There is so much great info at this link along with a printable copy of their get started 14 day program!
In addition, there is another link about what he says is the #1 Diet Mistake: "Losing weight isn’t about not eating. It’s about regularly eating foods that are filling and rich in nutrients. All too often, those seeking to lose weight practice deprivation diets. When you don’t eat enough, your metabolism slows and your body senses deprivation and starts and emergency storage of the calories you do consume." He also shares his Magical Breakfast Blaster & it sounds & looks yummy plus great for you!

I can tell you from personal experience, I have been there & done that with that eating too little! I eat more now at 52 than when I was in my 20's when I was starving myself to lose weight & working out hard on top of that. Talk about depleting the body!
Last but not least, a "Blubber-Busting Workout" with 4 great moves you can do at home. One requires a partner BUT you can use the wall OR a stability ball against the wall. Give it a try!
2. 6 Skinny Foods for Weight Loss from Joy Bauer - Read the full article at this link along with another link to a video of this segment
Shrimp cocktail
At around 8 calories apiece, shrimp are a fabulous source of lean protein, which helps rev your metabolism and keeps you feeling full for hours. Next time you dine out, start your meal with a shrimp cocktail appetizer. When you’re eating at home, dunk your shrimp in this could-not-be-easier cocktail sauce recipe: Simply combine 1 tablespoon ketchup with 1 teaspoon bottled horseradish, (add a squeeze of lemon or a splash of hot sauce for extra zing).
Fiery chicken salad
Adding a few dashes of fiery hot sauce to your food sloooows down your eating big time so you’re less likely to eat past the point of fullness. For a simple lunch, whip up a chicken salad with diced chicken breast, 1 to 2 tablespoons reduced-fat mayo, hot sauce to taste, and any diced veggies on hand. Serve over a bed of lettuce (and have a glass of water handy!).
Decadent, creamy pudding for less than 150 calories — and it helps you lose weight! Just combine a 6-ounce container of nonfat vanilla yogurt with ½ cup canned 100% pure pumpkin puree and a dash of cinnamon. The pumpkin bulks up the yogurt — already a protein-rich, nutrient-packed food — and adds a hefty dose of fiber. This winning combo of protein and fiber expands in your stomach, keeping you full long after you finish, so you’re not looking for more munchies an hour later.
Vegetable soup
Studies have shown that just by starting a meal with a fiber-rich bowl of broth-based veggie soup, you can reduce your total calorie intake by 20 percent. The soup takes the edge of your hunger and fills you up quickly, so you end up eating less of your main entrée. If you’re looking for a new recipe to call your own, try Joy’s Skinny Veggie Soup — and be forewarned, the Creole version is super spicy!
Cucumber tomato onion salad
Try my low-cal version of this classic Mediterranean salad. Slice up one whole cucumber, one tomato, and half a red onion, then toss all the vegetables with light vinaigrette or unlimited vinegar (balsamic or red wine is best) plus 1 teaspoon olive oil. The entire salad has less than 150 calories! Thanks to their high percentage of water (95%!), cucumbers are a low-calorie, high-volume and top-notch food for weight loss!
Ginger green tea
Nursing a warm mug of tea is a calorie-free way to de-stress after a long day without falling prey to emotional eating. As an added bonus, research suggests that regularly drinking green tea may give your metabolism a slight boost. Steep your tea with a thin slice of ginger root for an extra punch of flavor.
3. 90 Second Health Boosts from Prevention Magazine - a short video talking about eating apples to prevent cancer, eating pistachio nuts to reduce cholesterol, deep breathing to reduce hot flashes, eat whole grains to reduce inflammatory diseases, fridge temp below 40 degrees to prevent bacteria & getting sick from contaminated food and last but not least stop headaches by improving your posture. Listen to this 4 minute video.
Did I overwhelm you with all this info? I am sure you can pick & choose the articles & links you really want to look at since I know you are all very busy & need to just say NO sometimes!
BUT, keep this handy & look through them all when you get a chance . Lots of great stuff!

There was a lot of info here. I am marking the workout (Blubber-Busting) to review later. With regards to soup - while I love good soup and chili, I find just the opposite from your comment. I seem to eat more, which is causing me to question eating it regularly.

Steve, hey, if soup/chili makes you eat more than go by what your bod tells you!

Congrats on your award! I've just started following your blog but sounds like an award well deserved. Got to keep it fun! Great tips. I checked out GirlGetStrong and will def bookmark that one. LOTS of info there. One note, I'm 51 and I like you, have never eaten more in my life. More often, smaller portions and much better choices - apples vs. fries! You def don't have to be hungry to loose weight. That is such BS. Once I got over that and restarted my metabolism, I was on my way (of course that didn't happen over night).

Sara, so good to hear you are like me. YES, it does not happen overnight. No miracle cure. Writing about that tomorrow! Thx for visiting!

The cucumber-tomato salad sounds delicious and is similar to my own recipe. I'm also a fan of veggie soup (really, all non-cream soups).
