Is Your Body at Peace?
Saturday, January 9, 2010
I did a post on fear of failure the other day. Fear, such an obstacle for many of us not only with losing weight, fitness & health but every aspect of our lives. This article, Is Your Body at Peace, helps us work through some answers on how to get past that FEAR!
Is Your Body at Peace
Put fear in perspective. Realize that positive outcomes are possible. Discuss how you feel with others; work together to change the stress. Be in control where you can. Don’t let chaos dominate. Stay centered, and whenever you are thrown off center, take time to return there. Find an outlet for your anger and anxiety.
These are common-sense suggestions, but I wonder how many people use them. For every lunch meeting where two friends fret over living in a time of war and terror, there should be one where they speculate about the best way to find peace. In a time of crisis, putting your body at peace can seem like a full-time job.
Spiritual life is all about finding a center and holding on to it. Negativity can feel like your center. You must confront the fact that not just your body, but the body politic is affected by violence. When you find yourself fixated on war and violence you are empathically drawing in what others feel. This osmosis isn’t healthy per se. Collective consciousness is part of you. But it isn’t your real self, and if you mistake what others feel for what you feel, you are putting your body at war for a bad reason; because everyone else is doing it.
You have to put your own body at peace, and then, in the absence of turmoil, you can find out what you want to hold on to. Spirituality without a core of peace is very limited.

Fabulous topic! I consider myself a very spiritual person, one connected to nature on a deep level and, thus, to the earth itself and all of its inhabitants. I draw strength from this on a regular basis and do my very best to find the time to give that energy back too. Centering myself and feeling the connection that I know is there is something I try to do regularly and a practice that does, indeed, bring me a rich sense of peace.

Great topic! I am not spiritual, but I do believe that happiness is found from within. Positive thoughts breed positive thoughts, and negative ones breed negative thoughts.

Lori, I am like you & Dr. J. Not so much spiritual but whatever works for the person is what you should do. We just need to find that something that works for us for inner peace. Yes, positive thinking is a good thing!

This is a wonderful topic, Jody! Like diets, everyone needs to find what works best for them with this. In our very fast paced world, inner peace is all too often neglected until the stresses force us to pay attention. Being proactive is a good plan!

Dr. J, I am with you. We all have to find what works for us & what brings us some inner peace. If we don't, the stresses build up & can become toxic.

Great post, Jody. I take at least 10 minutes each day to be still and let my mind clear itself of clutter. It doesn't always "stick", but usually that 10+ minutes lead to the most productivity.

Cammy, 10 minutes is always better than no minutes! At least you are giving yourself that stillness!

Keeping yourself at peace, that's an interesting topic. Sometimes I just don't want to, but that's because my chaos is linked to my creativity.
Still, if I do need to become zen, there is only one thing I need to do... Go to the gym and lift heavy shit.

FJ, whatever floats your boat! If the gym brings you zen, go for it!!!! It does for me sometimes too since occasionally I get it to myself! Love that!

Fantastic post! few simple words which could simply change your life as long as you realize each difficult situation in life can offer us a wealth of information about other people, the world, and ourselves. In truth, we are always presented with the right kind of problem that alerts our soul to make the much-needed changes in our life. Discomfort or suffering indicates that something basic within us needs to shift before happiness and satisfaction can return.

Hi Jody,
Something I have spent some time focusing on over the last couple of years has been "looking within". Being able to connect with a deeper part of myself - what I tend to think of as a spiritual connection - has brought so much addition peace to me. And that has been a peace that starts within. And then...has projected out. And it has been wonderful. So, having our body at peace, which I think starts by looking within, is such a great place to work toward.
And..it's great to be here!
