What Happened To Healthcare Reform???
Well, another Sunday post about healthcare. I am just appalled at what is going on in the Senate! What is this crap! Why are we listening to Joe Lieberman, Ben Nelson & the rest of these people! This bill is not what we need. The insurance companies are going to make big bucks off of this bill AND the insurance companies are going to raise rates big time! Yes, there is the pre-existing conditions clause BUT it does not stop the insurance companies from charging you more if you have asthma or high blood pressure or high cholesterol & more! Here is a snippet from an article I read, No Public Option: Worse Than Nothing?. You can read the full article by clicking on the link.
The fundamental failing of the newest Senate proposal is that it requires individuals to purchase health insurance, but does nothing to rein in what insurance companies charge. There is nothing to stop spiraling health costs from eating up an ever-increasing percentage of our national productivity.
The House bill has two major cost-control mechanisms: the public option and the 85 percent medical-loss ratio requirement. The Senate bill is on track to have neither, and nothing new to replace them. The Senate bill is a recipe for national disaster. If it’s that bill or nothing, I prefer nothing.
Adding insult to injury, the Senate also voted down a bill yesterday that would have made it easier for consumers to purchase cheaper prescription drugs abroad. Mike Lillis of the Washington Independent suggests that the White House was relieved to see the Dorgan-Snowe bill defeated because it would have violated the deal it struck with pharmaceutical companies earlier this year. The drug companies promised up to $80 billion for health care reform if Democratic leaders withheld support for several initiatives that would cut into drug company profits.
I am at the point that I do not want to be a Democrat or a Republican or even an Independent, especially with Joe Lieberman calling himself a Lieberman although I like Bernie Sanders! We need a whole new party AND the whole process in Washington needs to change! It is craziness there! More than in the past! The Republicans filibustering everything whether they believe in it or not. The Democrats acting like idiots. The stalling & delaying of process. Everything needs to change! There are only a few I think are doing a good job.. so far & few beaten! I know, we are not going to change how this process happens in Washington any time soon but that would be a nice "dream"! Jeez Louise, people! Americans are dying every day, families WITH & without insurance are going bankrupt & losing their homes & all they have worked for all their life. We need change & we need it now! This healthcare system IS BROKEN!!!!The Borowitz Report sent this out last Thursday & I thought it said it all!
Senate Unveils CompromiseCare
Details of Healthcare Plan Revealed
|
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) - The United States Senate today unveiled details of its health care plan, tentatively called CompromiseCareTM:
- Under CompromiseCareTM, people with no coverage will be allowed to keep their current plan.
- Medicare will be extended to 55-year-olds as soon as they turn 65.
- You will have access to cheap Canadian drugs if you live in Canada.
- States whose names contain vowels will be allowed to opt out of the plan.
- You get to choose which doctor you cannot afford to see.
- You will not have to be pre-certified to qualify for cremation.
- A patient will be considered "pre-existing" if he or she already exists.
- You'll be free to choose between medications and heating fuel.
- Patients can access quality health care if they can prove their name is "Lieberman."
- You will have access to natural remedies, such as death.
Who knows what will happen now!

The electorate gets what they elect
I'm not very optimistic about any of this.

Dr. J. I thought we had elected some good people but looks like they all want to be weenies & cow tow to the big money in the lobbyists & insurance companies. I still have a few I have hope in but not many!
All on the Republican side, I can't believe there is not one person that disagrees with their stance. Just goes to show on that side of things, they will stick together whether they believe in something or not & that is just as bad to me.
I am not optimistic either!

The only decent people I've known in politics have been on the local level that didn't have larger goals, and many of them are not so good either. I think the biggest problem is the best people do not go into politics.

Dr. J, I agree. The good people don't go there because they know how corrupt it is & how much of your own morals have to go by the wayside.. like Corporate companies to me. AT least I had some very bad experiences in the corp world.

I had such high hopes for the health bill, but it has no teeth and really favors the big insurance company. Plus nothing will kick in for 4 years. WTF??
