Out of My Comfort Zone! Thank You's!

TGIF, Friday, December 11, 2009

As most of you know by now, I like to push myself pretty heard. I change things up often, I don't settle when it comes to my workouts & I push myself full force each & every workout. That is not to say that I don't have workouts that are easier than others. We all know that doing HIIT every day is not a good thing. BUT, even if it is a workout that is not as intense, I still give it my all for that workout. I stay in the zone & focus no matter what. Actually, sometimes I do not even hear the song playing on my iPod because I am so focused! So, yes, I do push myself out of the comfort zone & I am constantly trying new moves in the gym, both cardio, weights & core.

Now, saying that, thanks to Diane over at
Fit to the Finish, I am going to really push myself out of my comfort zone! Diane was contacted by LA Boxing to do a review of their club. Well, Diane has no LA Boxing clubs near her & she knew I lived in southern CA so she sent them my way. THX Diane!

So, today I am at LA Boxing for a one on one training on the techniques they use in their boxing & kickboxing classes! These are classes utilizing those punching bags you see boxers use. YIKES! Why do I say yikes? Well, the last time I did a "class" of any sort was in the early 1990's!!! I am a person that likes to do my own thing. I like to mix up the cardio based on how I feel & of course I like to pound the weights! I also like to work out in solitude so I go to the gym at some crazy hours. So, taking a class is definitely out of my comfort zone AND this type of workout is way out of my comfort zone! I have no doubt that it will kick my butt & the rest of my bod!! YES! I like that!

I am really looking forward to this though! I have wanted to do a workout like this for a while now but as I said, I am not really a class person PLUS the classes at my gym are quite crowded to say the least. My understanding is these classes may be a smaller group.

So, I will be updating you on how I did next week & in about 30 days, I will do a review of their club. Wish me luck!!! I really am excited to do something new though! But as you all know, I am NOT going to ever give up the weight training!!! Hey, they have some weights in their club.. I could always sneak on over to them...

I also want to say some "THANK YOU'S"! If you recall the post when I thanked Diane from Fit to the Finish & 266 for bestowing this Hope, Courage, Faith award on me -
Hope, Courage, Faith; Can You Vote fo Me. Well, right after that, Kat from FitMindBodySpirit, gave me that award too!!! And then, Lesley, from Lesley Lifting Life gave me a "Beautiful Blogger" and a "Fit Chic" Blog Award!!!! I just so want to thank ALL OF YOU!!!  I am supposed to pass them on & I am passing them on to ALL MY READERS! I know, but I just can't single anyone out because I love all your blogs & each one provides a unique & important message to me... so THANK YOU TO ALL MY READERS!

So, have any of you heard of LA Boxing or do you have a similar club in your area? Have you done any boxing or kickboxing classes with these punching bags? Let me know.. I am going to take a class either this weekend but most likely next week. They even have a real boxing ring in their facility!! NO, I am not getting in there!!!!

I have an extensive background in the fighting arts, and the bruises to prove it

I started with wrestling when I first get to college, then some judo, ju jitsu, and several styles of karate, as well as having friends who boxed who were happy to work out with me.

I had one buddy who was a golden gloves champ. Once while boxing, I ducked under his punch and hit him square on the jaw with the best left hook I had!! He smiled and said, "Good punch! That would have decked a lesser man!" LOL!!
    He was TOUGH!!

Seriously, the martial arts, and people who teach it with the right attitude, have given me gifts far beyond just being physically fit! Can't say enough good things about this!

I think a workout with those bags will make you feel powerful and awesome!

We don't have those gyms around here.

Going out of comfort zones is always challenging. Great minds think alike, I just wrote a post on this theme with my workout

I trained at a local club for a couple of years and dragged my husband along with me. We LOVED it - but once our instructor left and another one took over, it just wasn't the same. I guess any class really depends on the people teaching it and who are in it.

Good luck, can't wait to read all about it!

I'm so glad that it worked out for you to try out their facilities! I would have probably been so scared and nervous that I would have left and gone home.

Good for you on getting out of that comfort zone. And yes, they do have weights that I'm sure you could sneak over and use sometimes!!

Have a great weekend and congrats on all those awards - they are 100% deserved.
