Support/Motivational Resources

Today is my 26th wedding anniversary. So, happy anniversary to the love of my life! Holy crap, I can't believe he has put up with me all these years!!!! I am not the easiest person to live with & I admit that! Plus now with these change of life hormones running amok .. well, let's just say it ain't pretty! And we thought the monthly ones were bad!

Anyway, it got me thinking about where we get our strength from to continue on this journey of weight loss, healthy living, mind/soul renewal (which we know is key to staying on course) & life renewal. Who do we turn to for support & motivation? Where do we go for this? What steps do we take to stay on track?

To me, I think we all have to be able to have some sort on inner voice within us that keeps us going no matter what.. through the ups & downs of this whole process. We need to learn to change our mindset in order to change us... whether that be our body, our career path or our mindset. For me, I know the hardest thing is the negative self talk. Believe it or not, I have gotten better so that tells you were I was before! I do amaze myself that I can do what I do & yet I still have huge steps to take in the mindset area. BUT, it does tell us that we can get through this journey as all the pieces fall together. They may not all be there at one time but as long as we are plugging along & working at it & trying to do better, that is a good thing.

My husband has been a huge support factor for me. I am a crazy person when it comes to exercise & food. I work out at crazy times, I want to eat what I want to eat no matter where we are or what we are doing and he just supports me in that all the way. He lives with my workout craziness & he has learned it is no big deal to sit out & have dinner while I bring my own stuff or have veggies & bring a protein bar. AND, I bring my food to get togethers often if I know there will be nothing I really want to eat. I swear, I do this!

I know many of you are not so lucky with your husband or significant other. You may turn to friends or other family members for support. You may join a group to help you through. You may turn to online bloggers (yahoo for us! ) to push you past the downs of some of this. For some, it may be reading motivational books. I do keep a list of quotes I have been collecting since 2003.

I think we all know that there are highs & lows to this journey all the way through. Even after we hit our goal, we still have highs & lows. I know I do. We may still see that "other" person in the mirror. This is very common.

This is all a work in progress. My work is still in progress & I know I have strides yet to make in terms of accepting myself & having less fear of failure. Again, MizFit's post. What would you do if you knew you could not fail? Great question, right!

So, what do you do for support & motivation? Who or what do you turn to & do you turn to yourself too? I think it is very important to have some sort of support along the way. In the beginning, I was sort of my own support system BUT I had people telling me what a great job I was doing... it really helped push me on. I know whenever I notice a person that has made progress in their weight loss journey, I always tell them how great they are doing & how good they look. This is one way you can help others. What are other ways you use to support/motivate those on any type of "journey"?

Also, don't forget this:

Joanna and Lance are doing ‘Blog For A Cause‘ with the intention to do an ebook in which they are accepting  blog posts from different blogs and compiling them into an eBook. The proceeds will help support Breast Cancer Research. The blog post you choose can be one of your favorites,  one of your most popular, or whatever! Contact Lance or Joanna for more information.

    Happy Anniversary!
Your husband - like mine too - sounds like a gem. I think a strong support network is one of the most important keys to staying motivated to reach our goals (no matter what they are). I couldn't imagine trying to stay in shape and eat well if the people in my family were not supportive - it would be an entirely separate battle!

Jody, Happy Anniversary!! 26 years is a long time!! We've been married 22 years and I can completely relate to how you feel about your supportive hubby. You are so blessed and fortunate to have him and vice versa.

I often wonder if I could have completed my journey without the support of my hubby. The answer is probably no. He was and is my rock.

Congratulations on 26 years of marriage! That's incredibly special.
I had to laugh when you described taking your own food to parties. I'm a bit like that too. I avoid additives and artificially colored and flavored foods. That can be tricky at kids parties where the mum has poured food coloring into the icing on every cake and biscuit. We take our own food to parties. Most of our friends are used to it, but I know many think I'm a crazy mum. I am some days too. Ha!

First of all, congratulations on 26 years. Secondly, to answer your question on where I find motivation, I pull from inside, mostly. Then, probably from online, friends and blogs. Mostly I'd say it's a inner almost spiritual thing that keeps me going. I'm not talking Jesus or God. I'm talking the will and desire to survive and live a full, active life.

I've taken my own food to events in the past as well. When I would travel I'd make sure I had food that was on my plan.

Melanie, so true. Very hard to accomplish things when the ones you love fight you BUT people do it but so much better when you have the support!

Sian, I know your hubby will hang on to you!
