Healthcare Reform

I know that healthcare reform is a very volatile subject right now but I think my readers tend to be objective & even if we disagree on things, we do it in a respectful way. I usually do not write about this political stuff on my blog but to me, this is all about health & our need for better healthcare for all.

For me, this a big thing. I have seen the ugly side of healthcare & how much insurance companies run this debate. We should not have people in insurance companies telling doctors that they are wrong to want to save a life. At least 70% and more of doctors in this country are in favor of a public option or a one payer system.

Some opponents say that a public option is a vote for death. Right now, people are dying every day that have insurance and even more are dying that do not have insurance. Everything is a pre-existing condition these days. Seems like just being alive is a pre-existing condition. When acne, bike riding, flat feet and much much more are pre-existing conditions, we have a problem! And then you have the really sick people that can't get insurance & will die because of it. In my opinion, those against this are in favor of death not life because people are dying due to lack of healthcare & are dying even if they have it due to insurance companies fighting us every step of the way & denying any & everything. By the time you fight their decision, you may be dead. If you get sick, they cancel you OR up the premium so high that you can't afford it. People are selling their homes, land & everything they have just to save loved ones and themselves! And these are people with health insurance. I, personally, do not feel that a rich person deserves to live more than a poor person. We all deserve to live & we all deserve to be able to afford life insurance that actually covers us for being sick. Heck, you do not have to be poor not to afford it. I am part of the self-employed group. My husband runs a VERY SMALL business & we don't make a lot of money although we are considered middle class. BUT, we are the people out there, the millions & millions of people that can't afford health insurance due to the astronomically high cost for people that do not work for a company. Yes, you can buy catastrophic health coverage but does that get you to a doctor.. NO! When you have to reach a $10,000 deductible per person, to me, that is not health insurance because people will not go to regular doctor appointments & won't even go if they think something is wrong because they can't afford it!

Take a listen to this special comment by Keith Oberman that shows first hand experience with the system along with information from doctors & friends who came to him with their stories. Also, he is donating to freeclinics.us to help prove the need for healthcare.

I know some of you disagree with me out there. Feel free to comment but please do so respectfully. I am really upset with the dialogue right now on this issue & some of the horrible things people will say to get around an intelligent discussion of the facts. I know the people that frequent my site & it is obvious to me that we may be on different ends of the political spectrum but we manage to be able to disagree in a way that is not like some of this crap we see on TV.

Thanks for reading!

I absolutely agree with you. I think the health care situation is an abomination, and these death people are nuts. Right now, the insurance company can decide if you live or die, what's so bloody great about that? We could do better with our education, too, but that's another conversation.

Yo, I heard music when I landed on your page, is this new? Are you trying to trip me out... it's so working.

Anyways, I had to get something out... $10,000 DEDUCTABLE?! HOLY F**KING SH*T! I can't say more since I don't know anything about the US healthcare structure.

But that's ridiculous. Heh, move to Canada. It's cold as hell, but you'll stay well.

    FJ for Prime Minister?

FJ, this $10,000 is in the catastrophic health care category. You can also take it down to $7500 or $5000 per person depending on what you can pay but what are you getting for all the money you are paying them.. not preventative health.. it is like you are too far gone or you were in a car accident or something like that.

To get it to the point where your deductible is not so high, then the monthly premium is outrageous! Bankruptcy due to medical bills is at the top here.

This is just a pet peeve of mine due to some of the really awful rhetoric from people opposed to health care for all.

I don't understand why so many people are freaked out by the idea of health care reform. It's such a mess now, and so expensive! It's definitely time to do something about it, because it's only going to get worse the longer we delay dealing with it.

Julie, you are right about education too!

Crabby, I don't understand it either. I think it is the prob with all the lies being thrown around in the news.

Human health care is very expensive, and resource intensive. If it's ever going to become feasible for us to really take care of ourselves, we will need to intelligently alter our priorities as to where our money and resources go. Make health, not war!!
