Reading Blogs Plus Health/Fitness Odds & Ends!

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Well, today I have a lot of little things I want to talk about so let me start with one near & dear to all your hearts.

1. READING OTHER PEOPLE'S BLOGS
!!!! So, I read quite a few & try to make comments as much as possible but then.... there are all these other blogs that the blogs I read are talking about & I want to read them too & I get caught up in a crazed mindset of how to get to them all or even to try!!! They all sound so great!!!! So, my questions to you are: Do you read way too many blogs each day or do you rotate which blogs you read & comment to each on revolving days? Are you as crazed as me about wanting to get to them all but just do not have the time? What is your secret to reading all the great material out there? I do NOT have a blackberry & can't read while on the go so I am curious what you all do!!!

2. Diet Blog Post on Diet Advice from the World's Oldest ManI just loved this post about this guy so if you have a minute, click on the link. He says a lot of funny things but I got caught up in these statements:

"I think you should push back from the table when you're still hungry." AND "If you could just tell people not to eat so darn much."

Now that makes a lot of sense to me!!! He also worked 2 jobs most of his life & worked one till 99!!!! Now I am not saying you have to work 2 jobs or work that long but he obviously liked it. I think the point is to keep busy and active! Keeping ourselves in touch with other people, keeping our mind active & engaging in life is so important to mental & physical health! Like this:

He also keeps his mind sharp by interacting with people who visit him at his retirement home, and he listens to the radio, as his vision does not allow him to read anymore.

This was such an inspirational story. I hope you read it! One lady commented that it was genetics. Yes, they do come into play but I also think that the fact he kept engaged in life & took care of himself decently helped!!!

3. Children's Liquid Tylenol Products Recall: Just in case you had not heard, Johnson & Johnson's McNeil unit is voluntarily recalling 57 lots of infants' and children's liquid Tylenol products because of possible bacterial contamination. Read it by clicking on the link or going here, Recalled Products. I saw this on Sensei Talks & the news.

4. Need Dental Work?: I know, what the heck am I talking about here????!!! Well, this is big to me because dentists are expensive, insurance does not even cover hardly anything, if you even have it, AND I need it! So, I heard from 1-800-dentist about a contest they are having. Yes, only one winner but it is worth up to $30,000 worth of dental work, a smile makeover as they call it!!! THAT IS BIG! If you have or know somebody that really needs some major work done, check out the contest. To enter, simply create a 2-minute video describing what's wrong with your smile and how it affects your life and upload it to www.1800dentist.com/my-smile-bites. The contest rules are here. I know this seems weird for me to post about BUT teeth health effects our general health. I have read many reports how teeth issues MAY lead to other larger issues & maybe some cancers. BUT, also, a nice smile makes us feel better too! I admit that this is a big prob for me so I may be entering myself!!! I am sure I am not as bad as some out there but I guess the videos go online & people vote based on who needs this the most along with how your teeth now effect your life & how a new smile will effect your life in the future. I personally think teeth are like hair to women. When both look good, we feel better about ourselves long with the health issue of course!

OK, do you have any random or weird stuff you want to share with us today? What are your thoughts about the dental makeover? YES, it gets people to their site BUT I love contests & I need this one.

I try for some of these crazy odds even if I know it is a long shot. Jack over at Jack Sh*t, Gettin' Fit had an Honesty Post the other day. I commented that I am not brave enough to do what he did BUT here comes a couple of mine based on contests/shows I have entered: Extreme Makeover when that was on (I need dental work & I would like some face work & boobs - hey, I admit it!), 10 Years Younger and What Not To Wear. I entered all of these multiple times! I actually got considered for 10 Years Younger but not to be. DARN! OK, there is some honesty for me!

I like your randomness today! I saw the Tylenol recall. We have some children's Tylenol, but not those lot numbers.

I probably read more blogs than I really have to too. If I read it I almost always comment on it. I just can't help myself!

I read loads of blogs and try to comment on as many as possible. It's hard to explain, but I get something different out of almost every one of them. It's usually very inspiring stuff, in one way or another.

I know some families whose kids have needed extensive dental work who've actually taken them to Costa Rica to have it done. They have a fantastic healthcare system and the cost was so inexpensive that it was cheaper to fly them all down there and stay the entire time than to get it done in the state. Crazy, huh?

Ten years younger? Jody, I think you've overshot that bar by a long shot. You look fantabulous!

    Thanks for the shoutout, btw.

Jack, I agree, I get something out of all the blogs I read. It is just so hard to get to them all & I always want to comment!

As for dental, I called UCLA dental school. It is a 1 hour drive BUT here in southern CA, it can turn into 2-3 hours depending on traffic & accidents! There is over a 1 month wait but I got an appt. for that far out. Now I hope I can last that long with the work I need done!

AH, 10 Years Younger. Jack.. make-up! I don't wear a lot BUT it does cover the lines & bags & bad skin & such....

Ahh Jody, you're too nice. Actually my secret is simple. With my over-flowing reader it'd take all friggin day to read/comment on everything.

So what I do is... go through the blogs and if it's a topic I like or if it's a topic that interests me, then I read it. If it's some boring shit... I ignore it. Too many people read articles based on the blog itself. That's ridiculous.

When you do this, the smaller (sometimes shittier) blogs get ignored, but THEY sometimes end up having some good content. So it's your loss.

Then there are other times when I'm barely home so I'm a lil MIA. Nothing to lose sleep over.

I've found it's helpful to set a time limit for computer activities. So I only read as many blogs as I have time allotted for. I also make sure to mix up the list so I'm not always starting at the "top" Balance is what it's all about - and of course what I'm trying to find!
