Tight Glutes, Firm Legs, Strong core! And More!

Tuesday September 15, 2009

Before I start my normal post today, I want to bring to your attention the recall of fresh parsley in 10 states but most was shipped to California. Read more here.

So, it is still warm here in CA so tight glutes & firm legs can help the shorts wearing! But, don't we all look great in jeans if are glutes are tight & not dropping too much & the legs are firm? And a strong core is ALWAYS important!

So, another great exercise from
Muscle & Fitness Hers! The bench hop shown in the picture above. This exercise is going to tighten those glutes & legs, strengthen the core as YOU HOLD YOUR CORE IN PROPER FORM and even work your calves as you jump from side to side. Those with joint or knee issues, do be careful and/or consult your doctor. Here is how you do it:

As seen in the picture, stand on the right of the bench with your left leg close to the bench. Bend over & grasp the seat on both sides. Your upper body should be close to parallel to the floor, feet together & your weight should be mostly supported by your arms. Again, hold that core tight! FORM IS CRUCIAL!!!!

Keeping hold on the bench thru the exercise, hop your feet up & over the bench to the other side by kicking them towards your glutes. Your landing should be soft on the opposite side of the bench with feet together. Quickly hop back to the other side. THAT IS ONE REPETITION.

Now the variation sounds hard & I have not done it. I am still working on the exercise above! The variation says to do the exercise like this to add difficulty: One leg bench hops using the opposite leg for the side of the bench you are on...... i.e.: right leg on left side of bench. YIKES!

Also, keeping those glutes, legs & core tight & lean, here is another great video from ACE that works all of these and more plus you can do it at home! Check it out here: Medicine Ball Workout. You can always change out the medicine ball for a dumbbell or some other weight you have at home.

Let me know if you have done these & what you think or even if you are brave enough to try them. Be careful & don't hit the bench & knock yourself senseless!  Listen, I have fallen off the BOSU balance trainer & the Swiss ball more times than I can count!!!!
