Happy Birthday Dad!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD! Today is my dad's birthday. Come this September, he will be gone 10 years. It is astonishing to me still how it seems like yesterday. I know many of us out there have had loss recently & in the past as well. I have nothing for this post but to celebrate the honest, fun loving, hilarious, smart, wise cracking, loving best dad ever!!!!
From The Little Prince.... We shortened the below quote to put on a bench by his grave but here is the whole thing:
You—you alone—will have the stars as no one else has them--…in one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night…you---only you—will have stars that can laugh…”
Here are a couple other translations that are just as good:
"When you look up at the sky at night, since I'll be living on one of them, since I'll be laughing on one of them, for you, it'll be as if all the stars are laughing. You'll have stars that can laugh!"
"And when you're consoled (everyone is eventually consoled), you'll be glad you've known me. You'll always be my friend. You'll feel like laughing with me. And you'll open your windows sometimes just for the fun of it... And your friends will be amazed to see you laughing while you're looking up at the sky. Then you'll tell them, 'Yes, it's the stars. They always make me laugh!"
I also love this quote:
Here is my secret. It is very simple: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
Another thing about my dad. He was the first "all for equality & open minded person" I knew. He hired women and blacks and black women and any other race when it was a rare thing. It was all about "who can do the job" and not what color or race or religion you were...
Thx to all who continue to read my blog! AND for allowing me these times when I just have to put my fitness and health posts aside.

This is wonderful. I didn't know my father, but it is certainly wonderful to see other women celebrate their own. It's truly amazing when I watch my husband connecting with his 2 daughters, making memories that will one day cause them to honor him in the same way you have honored yours today. Beautiful!

He was a wise cracker huh? Sounds like a guy I would've gotten along with quite nicely Jody. What do ya think?

Jody described him beautifully. He was a really unique and wonderful person and I miss him terribly. He loved ice cream, so in his honor I will be eating a mocha chip ice cream cone today (it won't be too painful!).
Thanks Jody.

Your sister Bethe, my dear friend, referred to your blog on her Facebook. Thank you SO MUCH for allowing me a glimpse of the man who is partly responsible for who BOTH OF YOU are today!! I KNOW you both miss him dearly; however, he lives in your heart and in YOU!
