More on My Journey to Health/Fitness Knowledge
So, last week I wrote a couple posts about my "true self" and things that happened in my youth that effected how I viewed myself then and now. I made a point to reiterate how vitally important it is to work on your mind along with your body as you go through the weight loss process. Hey, I admitted then & have said over & over again that I am the first to admit that I am still a work in progress on the negative self talk (and all other things)! I am still holding dear to me both MizFit's Mission statement AND FJ's words to me when he commented on my blog:MizFit
To embrace and love whom you already are.
To be wholly comfortable in your own skin.
To realize that, by virtue of BEING, you are enough.
To be unapologetically yourselves.
FJ
THE FUTURE is what makes you! The vision you have is what makes you... because the future is like clay, it can be molded into what ever the hell you want. The past? The past can't change. It's like a rock. So let go of that rock. Throw it away into a lake... I think this will bring you the closure or change that you are seeking."
After college, in my 20's, I did join a gym & started doing both weights and aerobic classes. The weights I did were nothing like I do now BUT I was doing them when not a lot of women were doing them so it showed me it was OK & I was not going to get HUGE! BUT, I did fall into the aerobic class routine back then. Later in my 20's, I decided to try jogging & ended up not only doing weights a bit more then my early 20's but I started to run 5K's. I actually did pretty good in the races for my age group when I was doing these smaller races BUT I started to feel some knee issues & decided that staying active long term was more important than winning a race. Some of this was pushing myself too hard & another was that cross training was not a big thing back then. DO CROSS TRAIN TO AVOID INJURY!
The other thing WRONG with this picture was I was not eating right. I have gone on & on about the importance of food but back then, it was still a mystery to me. I went on that "I have to eat less mode to stay thin & keep my weight off". I would have a small breakfast, skip the during work meals for the most part & have dinner. I was ALWAYS hungry and tired!!! AND, I thought salad was best.... My day was about: Not enough protein, not enough calories, not enough nutrients, not enough fat (fat was my enemy, even the good fat) and all the wrong ways to do this! Looking back, I am amazed that I kept up the work & exercise routine I did because I was working LONG hours & working out as well.
Let me just say here.. DO NOT DO THIS!!! It is not the way to do it. I know that now after learning so much in my late 30's to now. I looked & felt better after I learned "the better way".
Look at that picture of me above again. Yes, I have posted this before so you get another laugh! I weigh about the same now (maybe even a couple pounds more) than I did in that picture yet look at the difference in the body composition & my clothes size is smaller now and I am A LOT OLDER! You need to eat right & exercise right and rest right to get the full package OR whatever it is you are working towards. DO NOT FALL FOR THE QUICK FIX, THE EAT WAY TOO LITTLE, THE DON'T LIFT WEIGHTS ETC. If you do this right the first time around and be patient & consistent, you will achieve your goals!!
Next installment in this will be my mid to late 30's & up when I really started getting it right! And a preview, I changed my workouts again! See, variety is the spice of life & workouts can & will change with time based on what you feel like doing then, what works for you at that point in time & just what feels right along with experience!! Not sure when the next installment will be but probably next week.

I am really enjoying this and seeing you thru the years.
isnt it amazing how we can be the same weight and yet look so different?
GOOD LORD I HAD THAT SAME LOOK GOING ON IN THE AEROBICS ERA
your pic made me smile.

Dear (name?)
I'm enjoying your story of your misspent youth. When I lived in the dorms, we "bonded" with our unhealthy lifestyles. We only thought about the outside (how we looked) not about the inside (the havoc we wreaked on our poor digestive system w/binge/purging, laxative abuse, vomiting, and weird foods). I may have weighed 15 lbs less than now, but..now I really try to visualize my digestive system, chewing my food to get the juices started, eating slowly, small portions, not a lot before bed, etc.
Thanks
Foggy

I'm not bored at all, and I hadn't seen that picture of you before! Love the hair!
I think that you make so many good points, in particular that you can look fit and healthy, but in reality be eating things that aren't the best for you - especially if you are into fitness.
I so admire your journey into fitness. Thanks so much for sharing.
