Madonna's Arms - Deceptive Reporting?

Have you all seen the pictures of Madonna's arms on the news & entertainment shows? It has become all the talk starting Tuesday! Everyone is talking about how she is pushing too much weight. BOGUS!!!!!
Most news stories I heard said something to this effect: Some are suggesting Madge should ease off on the iron-pumping sessions. Another wrote this: One witness said: "Madonna looks like she has been spending too much time at the gym, judging by the size of her muscles."
OK, I really felt the need to address this right now, right away!!! WHY??? Because this is CRAP!!!!
How those arms look has way more to do with her food, her diet & what she is eating to bring her body fat that low! Heck, I have some biceps too ... So does MizFit BUT although our body fat is low, it is not as low as Madonna's. Our arms may be able to look like that if we had 5% (a guess) body fat!!!! Well, MizFit would.. her biceps are way better than mine! Yes, Madonna works out specifically to have muscles but it is her food (and some cardio) that lowers the body fat & allows you to see them like in the pic above.
I was ranting at the TV last night as I heard all these stories about how she is lifting too much! I was driving my hubby crazy! Even people that know about training did not bother to mention diet .... they were too busy getting out the story their show wanted them to report!
SO, LET'S GET THIS STRAIGHT! LIFTING WEIGHTS WILL NOT DO THIS TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
After yelling at the TV about how this is food & diet, the next thing that went through my mind was this is going to turn women off from weight training which is a BAD thing! PLEASE understand that myself & MizFit train to look the way we do. We like having muscles that show. We train & eat to look this way!!!!! If you do not want to look like that, then you just train to look the way you want to look!
Madonna obviously lifts weights BUT it is her diet that is bringing her body fat down so low!!! I finally found an article, Madonna's Arms, that actually said this: "Oftentimes when your body fat is really, really, low, as Madonna's is, you're going to see veins pop," explained Leslie Bonci, director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "Her body fat is minimal, and she does a lot of strength training workouts that are going to build her muscles to look more visible."
Now, I am not saying that what Madonna is doing is the healthiest thing to say the least. It is like when a bodybuilder cuts up for a show. I have been there & done that & it has to be short term! It is not a healthy thing & you should not do it long term. Again, from the above article, "But scant fat plus hardcore exercise doesn't necessarily translate to a healthy body. When muscles look that way, it's often the result of pretty restrictive eating and dehydration," Bonci said, noting the "pop" of Madonna's veins mimics the appearance bodybuilders attempt to achieve for competitions. With bodybuilders, the goal is to be sinewy, to make everything stand out. How do you get to that goal? You restrict your fluid intake. But then you might collapse on stage."

Her arms look alot like one of my family member's arms. I know that she (my family member) is OBSESSED with eating NO fat, minimizing calories, etc. I have always thought she had/has an eating disorder.

Everytime I read your blog I learn something new! I knew it was hard for women to "bulk up" but had no idea that Madonna's arms look like that primarily because her body fat is too low.
Is that why men body builders have their veins showing? Is their body fat really low too?

Esssh...I've been hearing about her arms, yet didn't see a pic until now! Wowy, yeah just because she wants her arms to look like that doesn't mean I do and believe me, it won't deffer me from weight training. I'll never stop...

I want to see her six-pack
I used to know Ruthie Bolton. You probably don't remember her, but she lived in Florida in the off season when not being a starting guard on the Sacramento Monarchs. She also won at least two gold medals in basketball in the Olympics for the US. I mention her because she had the best six-pack and arms I've ever seen on a very fit, athletic woman! I'd take her over Madonna any day

Sorry everyone of the pic grossed you out. BUT, I did want to make the point that it is her low body fat that did this, not the workouts. If her body fat was higher, you would be saying she has nice muscles like MizFit.
Diane, yes, this is why men's veins show. Men have naturally lower body fat than women due to their testosterone levels being higher. BUT, when the body fat gets very low, this is what you see & veins. I have veins in my arms too BUT I am nowhere near what Madonna looks like! Dr. J. I bet her 6 pack is CRAZY! I Googled Ruthie. WOW, them arms!!! I could not find her 6 pack though. I am bummed! She is one fit, athletic women!

SO TRUE Jody!! Muscle def. like that is partly genetic and mostly dietary. Just look at female powerlifters in the olympics - I bet they can outlift Madge times 10 and yet their arms don't look like that.
