Have a BEcation on Vacation or Any Time

TGIF Friday, July 24, 2009

I was reading this great little article,
Forget Vacations and Staycations: How About a BEcation?,and I thought, what a great idea to write about since we all can get so crazed with every day life, kids if you have them, work, family, errands, our workouts and more! Part of the article says this:

"In times of vacations and staycations, I propose a new concept: a BEcation. What we really need is time to be. Time to listen to ourselves, to disconnect from the constant doing of daily life, and find the time to do nothing at all. We are usually so busy that we have lost touch with our inner voice, we have forgotten what we really want."

I AGREE!
As the article mentions, just getting ready for a vacation is stressful & exhausting. Having to plan ahead for mail, animals, watch the house, packing & even more so if you have kids, etc. Then you get there & you run around like crazy seeing the sights, eating out & basically trying to get a year's worth of fun and R&R into one week. Then you come home & have to handle all the unpacking, washing the clothes, getting house activities back in order AND if you work, back to that too! We all usually need a vacation from the vacation!

I say a BEcation is an awesome idea & you don't have to wait till vacation to do it! Again, from the article:

"What we really need is time to be. Time to listen to ourselves, to disconnect from the constant doing of daily life, and find the time to do nothing at all. We are usually so busy that we have lost touch with our inner voice, we have forgotten what we really want. How do you have a becation? By taking some time just to be with yourself. To go inwards and listen. To feel whatever might come up, be it peace and joy, or anxiety and insecurity. Being with yourself naturally makes you more conscious. Being present in the moment, silently observing what is happening in your surroundings, brings greater clarity into your life. It helps you dissociate from the chaotic thoughts based in fear and criticism that so often dominate our decisions. It helps you discern between the fears of the mind and the truth of the heart. It helps you get your priorities in order."

I say you can do this any day you want OR on vacation. It took me way too many years to learn to do nothing & not feel guilty! I do this at home AND when we are away! It is a must! OMG, I am imagining myself in that pic above!!!!

Find what is your Becation... maybe a bubble bath & candles on the counter to soothe you, maybe it is a walk in the park or at the beach BY YOURSELF, maybe it is taking an hour a day to close a door behind you & just read a book OR watch your fav TV show & not feel bad about it, maybe it is going to the coffee shop & relishing in your fav coffee & JUST SITTING THERE for you & no one else! On vacation, slow down & make sure to plan down time to just sit & relax... even if it is at night or early morn.... just BE!

Find what your BEcation is & promise yourself you will do it!!!! You deserve it! You can read the full article at the link above. It is a short article so give a read!

Do you have a special BEcation you want to share? Have you already made this part of your life? Are you going to say you deserve it & start giving yourself a BEcation?

I love the concept, but the only way for me to take a BEcation is to pretend to be sick. When I'm sick is the only time the really important things get done without my doing it. Rrrrr!

But I have pretended to be asleep so hubby would get up for crying Baby in the middle of the night. That works out beautifully.

That's a great concept, Jody! I have for quite a while now, tried to put a little vacation time in each day. It has helped me get through the tougher times.

I have another word for this: Vegging Out.

There is also a mini version of this, it's called meditation. And it works. But there is no need to be fruity and sit under a raging waterfall humming.

The inner voice... so damn powerful it's ridiculous. Ask it something, ANYTHING, and it will give you an answer along with an idea you can put forth.

Just be careful of what you ask. If you ask it: "Why am I so stupid"... it will answer.

On the contrary if you ask it: "How can I get in the best shape of my life..."

It will answer. (Hey, it might even mention moi!). Try it.

Hey Jody, what does your inner voice say?

I like this concept a lot. For me, that's why I get up early. My husband doesn't get that I LIKE to spend time doing what I want to do, and not what all the other 8 people in the house want me to do!

Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to have him read this!

Josie, I guess you do what you have to do although sleep was not with you this morn based on your post!

Dr. J, I love the every day concept! Let's go for that!

FJ, YES! I use the veg out word too & love it!!! Hmm, my inner voice says learn to accept but I have not mastered that yet! I also think it says that FJ will bother me about tea forever!

Amanda, I am all for the couch potato as a means of R&R!

Diane, hope you hubby gets "it"!

Duh, im a fitness coach. No way I'll let you off that easy. Hah, but I'm glad you've accepted that.

As for that inner voice, hmm... maybe you're still not asking the right question?

By the way I wrote that in the gym after an adrenaline pumped chest routine while on a caffeine cocktail. Figured you should know.
