Finding "Peace"

Sunday, July 26, 2009

Another warmer day here so I want to make this an off day from blogging BUT I have one more article to help us through the craziness of life that I want to share with you. I guess I need these articles more myself so I read them & then share them. Life is crazy enough in busy southern California but when just every day things like money, family & the like get mixed in, it makes these articles even more important. I need to reread each one at least 10 times or more!!!

Finding Peace in the Midst of Chaos

In an increasingly unpredictable world, anxiety and insecurity abound. Where can we find peace in the midst of modern life? The answer is simple: within ourselves. Here are four ways to do this in your life…

1. Get present

When you find yourself in the midst of a worrying situation, stop. Go inwards, and ask yourself “what is wrong in this moment?” usually, nothing is wrong right now. It is when we stray off into past regrets and future concerns that anxiety kicks in. Don’t deny the problems you are facing, but don’t get lost in them either: being present will bring you greater alertness and inner security, allowing you to face challenges more objectively and with greater calm. From Jody: My last to posts talk to this..... BEcation & Finding Balance

2. Laugh at yourself

When you realize you are obsessing with a concern or worry, laugh at yourself. Just look up at the sky and think, “Oh! I’m doing it again!” When you don’t take yourself so seriously, you immediately disarm the worry and anxiety of the intellect. This will help you take stock of the situation and reassess things more clearly. From Jody: I have blogged about laughter a lot. I still love the video in this Laughter post!

3. Go with the Flow

As adults, we have lost the ability to flow. We cling to the idea of what we want, and fight against the current of life, because we think that what we want is what is going to make us happy, but that’s not the truth. Our happiness depends upon the choices we make in each moment. Am I choosing to be happy, or am I fighting for what I want? Am I attached to an idea or am I willing to flow? From Jody: This one is a hard one for me!

4. Take responsibility for your own happiness

If only he wasn’t so … then I could be happy! Sound familiar? We are so dependent on the behaviour of those around us, that whenever they aren’t the way we want them to be, we suffer. If your happiness depends on other people, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. People change all the time, and things are never exactly how we expect. Stop trying to change others so that you can be happy. Instead, focus on praising and appreciating the people around you. From Jody: Again, another hard one is a hard one for me! I don't want to change others BUT I do care too much about what others think rather than just focusing on me & what I can do for me. I think this plagues a lot of us!

Hope some of these posts help you. I know I am going to have to reread all of them multiple times!

I also just want to leave you with a link that Mother Nature Network has just published, their list of the ten greenest cities in the United States. You can read it at the previous link or from this Care2 link where I saw it. It is worth clicking through it just for the pictures of the cities! Here is the other link: 10 Greenest Cities in the U.S.

Hope you are having a great weekend! Picture from Mother Nature Network.

Number 9 is my favorite, but I'm not sure a grown woman swinging from the jungle gym is gonna go down well.

Today is supposed to be a "do nothing and relax" day. But I just got this urge to go to the mall amongst the hectic crowds (and specifically to visit the food court). Should I???

If anyone reads these comments, they belong to yesterday's post. My site went "crazy" yesterday & who knows what GoDaddy is/was doing because things have been pretty screwed up lately. It took these two comments from yesterday & put them here before I even published it! It also deleted my yesterday post & I had to republish it & now I am not getting notifications that I should be getting. GoDaddy needs to get their act together because I have had way too many probs with their blog site! Anyone else have GoDaddy blog & have probs?

My fave is number 4. So often we forget that happiness is a choice, not a condition. And certainly not a right! Once we take responsibility for our own happiness it gets so much easier to find Enjoy that sunshine!
