Birthday Resolutions

Three things got me thinking about birthdays for today's post.

(1) It is one of the granddaughter's bdays!!!! Happy # 4 to Emily! That is a pic of her holding Rainbow bear that we sent her for her present. Very cute!!!

(2) MizFit had a great post about the fact that she is turning 40 & how great she felt & what she was thankful for as she turns another year older. She is a great role model for all women & also for moms since she does such a great job of teaching her young daughter to love herself no matter what!

(3) Those two things above got me thinking about a post from Linda over at Picture Yourself Thinner about Resolutions. This post was back on June 27th but I have been thinking about it since then. She challenged us with a new way of thinking about resolutions. This is what she wrote:

"Several years ago, I decided that, instead of making resolutions, I would pick a word that would guide me throughout the year. It would be my touchstone. It would remind me of living my life at the BE level. This didn’t mean that I didn’t take action. It meant that my actions were inspired from the BE level. In fact, I took more action than ever with this new approach! Since then, I’ve included this idea at the start of each New Year - and the response is always huge.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR WORD FOR 2009 (it’s never too late)!
Look through the list below if you need some guidance. Get quiet over the next few days. And pick a word for the rest of the year. Just one word. That’s all. Then, hold that word in your mind throughout the rest of the year, and let your word guide you to take action. Then choose another word for next year."

You can read the whole post at the Resolution link above & see all the words she offers up OR you can choose your own. UPDATE: For some reason, Linda's blog is down. All was fine yesterday when I got the links to her blog but something has happened since then. I tried to email her since & that is down too. We had emailed yesterday about this so not sure what is up. I will keep checking so that you can read her post & blog at a later date.

Now, for me, you don't have to be a New Year's Resolution person. I am not. Hey, pick a word every month or every 6 months if you want to. Life is ever changing so who is to say that your word will not change based on the circumstances. Her advice is to master "your word" before moving on.

Many people say they want to lose so many pounds "this year or month" OR I want to be in a bikini at 40 OR I want to look like this when I turn 45. It goes on & on. As I get older, I think this word thing is going to work a lot better for me & would have at my earlier ages too. At 40 I felt great, 45, not too bad... But at 50, when the "change of life" had been going on too long and my birthday was 6 days prior to my mom's death, well, it was just hard to even focus. It was a survival game that year. At 51, my hubby whisked me off to Hawaii even though we could not afford it because he knew how hard this first year "anniversary of my mom's death" was going to be.... I always get a feeling of peace & calm in Hawaii.

This year as I get closer to 52, I think I shall take on the word resolution of Linda's..... but not call it a resolution. Just a word life challenge for me. I sure wish I had known Linda earlier in life when I was making stupid New Year's Resolutions! Right now I am working on "Acceptance". I have trouble accepting myself for who I am & accepting some of the "crap" that has happened the past few years. I am keeping this word for now because I have not mastered it yet. I have a couple others I work on too but acceptance is the big one for now.

I hope Linda's word resolution helps you. Let me know what you think & let Linda know too!

Ahh, a guiding word! I love that so much better!! The first thought that comes to mind is the word "Diligence" that rings all through the Book of Proverbs as it contrasts the benefits and rewards compared to what a lazy person receives. "Diligence" will be my word. Thank you!

This is a great concept. We have a loose family mission statement, but a word for the year is a great idea.

I think I'll have to choose the word commitment. Commitment to my healthy, my family, my book, my friends.

    Thanks so much!

    She's a cutie!!

Working on my word. I did have a year where the phrase, "What's the plan?" was my guiding mantra

Hmm, I'm guessing lovely Linda is having server issues.

I love the 'one word' concept, or even a couple of words. This week, I'm going with 'can so' to fight my laziness gene.

Wishing you a great week ahead!

Interesting idea! I can't choose one word! LOL is that bad? I'm an English major -- its too hard. Hmm maybe "choice" will be my word then. As in I have a choice in how I will live my life. Every day presents an opportunity to make the choice to better myself and to continue conquering my goals. Yea, i think that works lol
    Have a great day Jody!

So sorry about Linda's site being down. I tried to email her but that is down too so I am guessing major server issues. I will keep checking & let you know when she comes back up. Keep her link just in case!
