Exercises You Can Do Anywhere

I think many of us would like some exercises we can do at home, on travel, on vacation or just if we are at the park with the kids. With many of us short of time too, having a plan to work out at home "just in case" is a good thing too if you are a gym person.. OR just more options for you at home people.

Previously I posted 10 At Home Exercises to Tone Up and Work Your Full Body in 2 Moves. Today I am offering up a great short 3+ minute video from ACE, American Council on Exercise, Summer Total-Body Circuit Workout. There is also a written version so you can print it out & take it with you! Click on the link to view the video. Now, this is not meant to be an end all but something you can do at home or when you are crunched for time or when you are on vacation & don't want to do your normal intense workout or just to do something different. For those of you that have been working out for a while, you can add weights or up the intensity if you prefer to do that. Also, these are moves that you can pick & chose from if you want to work a certain body part a bit more. Maybe you do one or two of them while you are watching your fav TV show. Do sets of let's say, the contralateral limb raise, push-ups, front plank or glute raise during commercial breaks OR maybe you want to do the limb raise during one commercial break, the push-up the next commercial break & so on. Do what feels right for you OR just do the full body circuit. Do it 2-3 times if you are up to it or have the time.

Also, here is a great move from Shape magazine. The picture above shows it. It is a cobra pose with shoulder squeeze which works the back & BUTT:

**Start by laying facedown with elbows bent at your sides, palms near your shoulders, legs slightly separated & rotated outward, tops of feet on the floor. Pull your shoulder blades down & belly in, rest your forehead on the floor. Inhale & lift torso into a mild backbend as shown in the first picture above and squeeze that butt. Now, exhale & lift hands a few inches, pulling elbows toward hips & squeezing shoulder blades together & keep squeezing that butt at the same time. Hold for 3 breaths, release & return to start position. Do 6-10 reps. Of course, be careful if you have back issues.

ALSO, this can be just a great butt move by just doing the first picture pose & holding the butt squeeze for as long as possible. Release & do at least 5 reps holding as long as possible. Work towards holding that squeeze longer! HEY, you can do this during commercial breaks too!

Let me know if you think these are moves you can do at home or on the move! Have a great weekend!

Ahhh, I love this move after an abs workout. But of course I haven't worked my abs in, er, a week. Ooops!

Life has been getting in the way. I'll do better starting right NOW!

I've found that running is the easiest exercise to do "anywhere." Running shoes are an easy thing to take along. In addition, I've become very creative with finding stuff to hang on, or work off of, or pick up where ever I have been. The desire to get it done is really where it's at. I know you know this, Jody, but it always surprises me when I hear all the "reasons" why some people can't just do it. The number one most important thing to be healthy and fit is to want to. That's want to in capital letters now

Josie, with 4 kids, I bet life is getting in the way!

Diane, like you, I like having options & especially if I need to give the bod some rest!

Dr. J, SO TRUE! My running shoes come with me all the time & if I don't jog, I walk. If it is hilly, I have gotten some great hill walks in.. my favorite being a straight up hill in Kona Hawaii. Good butt work & great scenery at the same time! And you are SO RIGHT about WANTING to do it. Thx for sharing!

Nice. Jody you're full of finding these weird niche exercises. Keep em coming!

Btw guess what I've been doing for the past week? (Besides working my a$$ off). YOGA. That's right! With my fellow brown people... was good times.

Haven't done that in so long, figured I'd re-center myself.

FJ, I am impressed! I have never done yoga but always thinking about trying it! As we get older, we need some of these either not so intense things!

I like the cobra pose at the end of a workout. between that and back extensions on the ball, I can work out any kinks I just put in.
