Work Your Full Body in 2 Moves

TGIF Friday, July 10, 2009

Continuing my series from yesterday, I want to provide you with things you can do at home, while on travel or just about anywhere if you are up to it. Me, I am a gym rat but I know many of you don't live by the gym! PLUS, it is travel season so take these with you!

I know what you are thinking.. COME ON! OK, doing just these 2 moves all the time will not get you the perfect body BUT they certainly will tone up every area of it & you can take these moves with you on the road, do at home, do outside at the park, beach or wherever if you don't mind people staring at you. Hey, maybe they will join in & get fit!

I got the idea of writing this post after walking with my friend Paula today. She, along with my stepdaughter both take boot camp classes. Well, those boot camp classes LOVE burpees, with or without the push-up in there. She was talking about this circuit they did & how her core & whole body felt this workout BIG TIME the next day. Those that have done burpees know that they will work your butt, legs, chest, arms, back, shoulders & core all at the same time!

The other exercise that I picked (different from the one my friend did) is the woodchop with a dumbbell or other weighted item. The link shows you how to do the exercise. This will work the glutes, legs, core, shoulders, arms & back too!

So, here is how it works: Do as many burpees as you can without stopping. Push yourself & don't sell yourself short! You can do more than you think you can! After finishing the burpees, rest for no more than 15-30 seconds & go right into the woodchop with weight. Do as many as possible without stopping. Once you finish your set of both exercises, rest one minute & start up again! Try to keep going to failure. See how many you can do. If you can't handle the weight at first, no prob.. start without a weight & work towards that. I guaranty that you are going to feel this the next day. Hey, a bit of a cardio workout too!

IMPORTANT - DO NOT GET SO TIRED THAT YOU DO NOT KEEP PROPER FORM! IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOUR FORM IS CORRECT SO THAT YOU NOT ONLY GET THE BEST RESULTS POSSIBLE BUT SO YOU DO NOT INJURE YOURSELF!

Variation: If you want, try to do the sets during commercial breaks but no rest between the two exercises. Yes, you will have that down time between the show & the next commercial but at least you are moving & doing something.... try to do it every commercial break thru your show or shows depending on the length of the show!

It is always good to have options of things we can do while we are at home, travel or out & about. I hope this adds one more to your routine!

I did my woodchops this morning with a medicine ball. I worked out so hard, my heart jumped out my chest and ran down the street (yes it has legs, I was very surprised).

Jody - I've got to try these, and the yesterday ones! I use free weights for my arms, but don't do a lot else due to back issues. I'm going to try again, and I'll let you know how it goes!

Josie, you are too funny. Your posts & comments always fun to read!

Diane, back injuries are no fun! Just keep absolute proper form when you try these. I hope you are able to do some of them.

JODY, what's happening? Haven't got to post my shenanigans on blogs for a while. Been busy with a project.

Hi Jody, great exercises for any time. FJ, try the link again, it worked for me!

When I am on holidays I find myself doing different exercises like hiking, tennis, snorkeling. You can tell I am not a serious gym junky.

HI FJ. Figured you were busy! Link seems to work so maybe try again. I don't eat the Kashi bars so I will look forward to your review. Many of them have more carbs then I prefer in a bar. Since I love my carbs, I rather get them from food! I look for bars with more protein & average carbs.. not 40+g like some of the Kashi ones.

Kellie, like you, I do try to get outside on vacations for a walk or some other form of fun but I still try to work my muscles too. I usually bring exercise bands that I can use in the room too if there is no weight room.. or a crummy one. I don't do near what I do at home though! It is vacation!
